Re: When will CRT simulation be available for Consoles?

Chief

I was wondering. Is there a way for you to contact people at Sony and/or AMD to highlight the value of 480Hz output support?

Sony sadly has a track record of not supporting even more mainstream things even when the hardware is capable. I am afraid of Playstation 6 never getting 480Hz output ...

Re: Will 480hz over 240hz benefit me?

If you keep playing at 100fps, then 480Hz makes no sense at all.
But there are two things which may change that:

- possibly frame gen (interpolation). In most new games with highest settings, you won't be able to stay above 130fps to have something like 100>400fps interpolation. But in those where ...

Re: DLSS4. We need proper tests for motion quality of frame generation

If I *have* to use framegen as a blur busting technology (where the temporal clarity exceeds spatial blurring by a BIG margin), I prefer framegen 80fps->240fps over framegenning from 30fps.

Sadly, most people think about 15-40fps when they hear about any frame gen/interpolation.
I think NV ...

Re: DLSS4. We need proper tests for motion quality of frame generation

The translator is probably mistaken.
But if not.

OK. Sorry for the confusion. So yes, we do need perfect tests made by knowledgable person. But it's very unlikely we'll get that anytime soon, unless Chief helps us all directly or indirectly.

I'll take tests made by a random forum user or ...

Re: When will CRT simulation be available for Consoles?

I'm not at all interested in 24 and 30fps content. I simply skip the games if I can't get at least 60 (more if mouse controlled) and I watch like 1 movie per year so.. :)
I mistakenly thought Retrotink can do better than 8ms. Thanks for the info.

Re: New dual-mode 4K OLED monitors - where/when?

I have two questions related to dual-mode displays in general.

1. Does it to cost significantly more for the display manufacturer to allow for native 480Hz instead of 480Hz at only 1/4 res? Do we see it because the lack of faster ports (even HDMI 2.1 is not being used on all monitors yet) or it's a ...

Re: DLSS4. We need proper tests for motion quality of frame generation

Frame generation is not just supposed to be a motion blur-reducing feature, but also a smoothness/blur-increasing

I know, but everyone can properly judge the smoothness of the image. More frames = more smooth. This should not be a problem with interpolation.
I understand all you wrote, but I ...

DLSS4. We need proper tests for motion quality of frame generation

Hi.

Please excuse the bad and chaotic form of the text.
I hope you endure as the meaning matters, not the form. Some points I make may also feel weird/wrong/unnecessary, but I assumed it's better to mention everything just in case.

If someone who's good at writing could upgrade this into a ...

Re: When will CRT simulation be available for Consoles?

There's always the RetroTINK4K for now, if you want to cut down 50% of motion blur for 60fps titles.

Wait, RetroTINK should be able to cut down more than 50%, or am I wrong?
I'm not able to afford and/or justify the purchase, so I'll have to stick to PC methods.

Anyway.
60% of 16ms is still ...

Re: When will CRT simulation be available for Consoles?

Probably never or not anytime soon

Sony pushing AI upscalling would shoot themselves in the foot if people could see how bad their upscalling is for motion reproduction quality.
Also, they don't want to talk about how good 480Hz displays are while also pushing 30fps games as "cinematic experience ...
