Re: Trying to recall what was the monitor released this year with scanline BFI done with FALD
As I understand it from the Rtings review it's basically a gimmick at anything lower than 540 Hz (there are pursuit photos there) because crosstalk is terrible and the pulse is longer at lower refresh rates:

How does local dimming affect SDR content?
I did not care about local dimming until recently but there's TCL 32R84 which seems to be great on paper with 1400 zones and 1400+ cd/m2 and most affordable 32" 4K FALD monitor.
There's also a chinese rebrand Ffalcon R32U8 which might be even cheaper.
Hence the question: how does local dimming ...

Found a review in Japanese and they are doing the pursuit shot wrong lmao.

I probably found it. It's not FALD but rather side backlight used to scan the panel, it's called Dyac2.

Would really love to know if anybody tested it.

Trying to recall what was the monitor released this year with scanline BFI done with FALD
I heard a lot about the programmatic BFI:

but I do not care too much about them. But I do care about some monitor which got released this year which has scanline BFI ...

Re: How does DSC affect image quality?
Where is the console tool? You posted a dozen links, I can't find it anymore
It's here:
First of all, DSC is an open standard available from VESA directly for free.

Re: How does DSC affect image quality?
I am not aware of any way to force GPU to use DSC except maybe isolating some lanes on the cable (never tried it, have no idea whether it should work). Maybe connecting two or more cables sequentially will make GPU choose lower link speed without failure to connect.

Re: Lookinh for 4K with good BFI
I am under impression that I will probably hack my own BFI in few years. It's technically doable on any backlit display without modifying firmware and modifying TCONs.

Looking for 4K with good BFI
I would love:
- VA or IPS display
- 4K 32" or more or something else providing same height in pixels and physically
- non curved or low curvature (would hate to need to sit only in front of it, I sit off centre a lot)
- good BFI without significant artifacts like trails and slow red phosphor ...
