Re: Epic Games Technical/Graphics Director says future is blurry, old man

One of the key distinctions here is that he's not calling for combining multiple lower resolution frames, but combining multiple native resolution frames as an alternative to supersampling, which is extremely expensive. The main reason for this being that there's now too much detail on the screen to...

Re: Dual monitors - mixing 60hz & 240hz

Some games will exhibit performance issues when running in windowed (including borderless windowed) mode in mixed refresh rate setups. Newer games are less likely to exhibit issues as Microsoft implemented a new DXGI feature to entirely fixes it and Windows' "fullscreen optimizations" feature (which...

How common are HDMI/DP hot plug disconnect issues?

An explanation for those not familiar with this: Some monitors (and TVs,) when they go into standby, change inputs, or potentially from other functions, will trigger a device disconnect on an attached PC. On multi-monitor systems, this causes Windows to rearrange all open windows so that none are lo...

Re: Buying 144hz monitor

I would consider the 2020-era "1ms IPS" panels. Many 2019-era 144Hz IPS are rated "3ms IPS" panels. Even though GtG pixel response speeds are slower in real world, the new panels has quite visibly noticeably approximately 1/3rd the IPS ghosting of yesteryear's slower IPS and much closer to TN than ...

Re: Where are all the 4k 120+Hz monitors?

DP 1.4 can still manage 4k at 120Hz without DSC or chroma subsampling, and that's been in GPUs for at least 4 years. Still strikes me as strange how few displays are available after this much time. That LG model looks basically the same as the Viotek model I found and the Eve Spectrum, both of which...

Re: Dual monitors (VRR + 60hz normie)

You're right to be concerned. Windows has had issues with running multiple displays at different refresh rates ever since the DWM was introduced with Windows Vista. This does only occur when running games in windowed mode however, fullscreen mode should not cause any problems. Thankfully though, Mic...

Where are all the 4k 120+Hz monitors?

Since GPUs are finally getting powerful enough to run games at 4k at high framerates without sacrificing visual quality, I've found myself looking into upgrading my monitor (I'm still using the Asus VG248QE with the G-Sync upgrade kit I won from the giveaway here years ago!) 1440p seems like it woul...

Games not recognizing custom overclocked resolutions

I'm curious if anyone else has run into this. I have a friend who bought one of those cheap Korean IPS monitors, and managed to overclock it to 96Hz at the native 1440p. Unfortunately since doing that, many games do not seem to be able to use the custom resolution and will only run at 60 Hz. Even ga...
