Re: ELMB-Sync experiences?

Were they showing both the VG259QM and VG279QM? ASUS also seems to be refreshing the VG27AQ as the VG27AQL1A, although I'm skeptical that ELMB-Sync will be dramatically improved on that one. TFTCentral got a sample of the VG279QM on Feb. 6, and he was the first to mention the problems with ELMB-Sync...

Re: ELMB-Sync experiences?

Avean, ELMB-Sync is functionally useless. ASUS did manage to achieve simultaneous backlight strobing and variable refresh, but they did so in a way that doesn't benefit motion clarity. In fact, I think it's worse than not strobing at all. I measured the backlight of the VG27AQ during ELMB-Sync in 10...

Re: MSI MAG271CQR - brief red ghosting when looking around screen while MBR is on

It looks like all of MSI's Optix line is advertised as having 115% sRGB coverage, so while not HDR, they do have the extended gamut. You're right about people potentially being off-put by this. Most sites that review monitors don't seem to spend much time on backlight strobing. LG, Samsung, AUO, etc...

Acer KG271U Review (27" QHD 144 Hz TN)

https://youtu.be/DZLoyqhmwHA with charts here: https://www.aperturegrille.com/reviews/AcerKG271U/ Even at $250, this monitor really has nothing to offer, and I'm especially disappointed because it lacks a strobing mode, but you folks here on BlurBusters might enjoy this kind of detailed and nerdy lo...

Re: MSI MAG271CQR - brief red ghosting when looking around screen while MBR is on

sneakertack, check out my review of the XG270QG at 13:07: https://youtu.be/aNDCK6PiChY?t=788 Most of the wide gamut panels use a red phosphor that gets repeatedly excited during strobing by the backlight. LG, smartly, doesn't even offer blur reduction on their wide-gamut panels because they know it ...

Re: ViewSonic XG270QG Review

As long as you have a Pascal or newer graphics card and are using DisplayPort, most FreeSync monitors should at least function with adaptive sync. They might not be flawless experiences, but you can at least see what it's about.

Re: ViewSonic XG270QG Review

You're totally right. The website is more of a data dump than a text review. For those who already know what to look for, you can get what you need really quickly. I covered all the measurement procedures in detail in this previous video: https://youtu.be/neVQfBy2w2Y?t=851 But it's 22 minutes long.....

ViewSonic XG270QG Review

Video review and companion article: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNDCK6PiChY http://aperturegrille.com/reviews/ViewSonicXG270QG/ It's 17 minutes long! Sorry! Blurbusters seems like the right crowd for my type of reviews. The two new ViewSonic monitors, the XG270QG and the XG270, seem pretty impre...

Re: Fixing CRT brightness with WinDAS (lots of pictures)

I've never actually calibrated a monitor before, and I was hesitant to do so because of the sRGB modes on these displays: they look absolutely terrible. I'm concerned that a properly calibrated white point won't actually look white. I'd rather the image look good and be wrong than look bad and be co...

Fixing CRT brightness with WinDAS (lots of pictures)

Several years ago I found a Sony Trinitron CRT (IBM P260) for sale on craigslist for $40, but it suffered from the common runaway brightness problem. At the time, I didn't know there was a software solution, so I fixed it with the resistor mod, and it's been fine ever since. But last week, I found a...
