Re: Ensuring a flicker free gaming experience
Ok got it Chief. The thing is though for example at 60hz, one frame to another frame takes about 16ms right? So say that 16ms transition, does that display a double image or multiple images at once creating a sort of flicker or strobe effect? Or the transition of pixels from one frame to another the...

Re: Ensuring a flicker free gaming experience
Given that all lcd’s have some motion blur, does motion blur in it of itself simulate or create flicker? See: http://www.displaymate.com/motion.html I get we can get higher refresh rate monitors for PC gaming to minimize motion blur but what about those with 60hz console games or even most media con...

Stroboscopic effect on displays
I’m having a hard time understanding what stroboscopic effect is. Is it something that is present on all displays lcd crt plasma etc and is unavoidable until 1000hz? Is it the judder or stutter that is present on 24p or 30fps content on a 60hz display? Is there a certain display that won’t have stro...

Re: FRC
PWM dimming is the thing you need to worry about more, because THAT is a 100% full flicker from total darkness to total brightness (essentially a squarewave flicker) rather than a gentle flicker. Makes sense. Does oled tech have flicker since the pixels are able to be turned off or on completely li...

Re: FRC
Now....6bit+FRC, we're talking. That's big enough of a flicker ratio. Would 6bit+frc fall under the plasma/dlp range of flicker? Is it greater than incandescent bulb flicker curve? Would you know if a graphics card enables FRC or temporal dithering where does that fall in the flicker curve? As a si...

Re: Ensuring a flicker free gaming experience
This maybe the wrong forum for this question but maybe @chiefblurbuster would know better about this. So here's the thing I'm hearing even though OLED may not use PWM it still has a 60hz refresh flicker. As you can see in rtings.com PWM measurement graphs there is a consistent slight dip in the in t...

Re: Ensuring a flicker free gaming experience
I don't think point 1 matters because unless you plug in a 10bit signal it won't use FRC. Dell P2717H 27" I'm pretty sure if you're playing in 4k it would simply downscale to 1440p. I'm not sure about xbox one or Xbox one x but on ps4 pro you can only select 4k or 1080p resolutions. No in between. ...
