Re: Alienware OLED Monitor - 4K/120 Hz 55" DP 1.4

Not to mention that DP 1.4 can't go past 4K 98hz in HDR10 mode without dropping to 4:2:2, unless DSC is supported. I'd love to find out. Personally, I rip all my legally purchased content to my PC for playback so I don't need HDMI, but 4:2:2 is a dealbreaker as I do not want to switch refresh rates ...

Re: New 120Hz Xbox One update (high refresh rate, Freesync)

I wonder what the reason is for limiting VRR to 40-60 Hz range. AFAICT there should be no reason to limit the refresh rate in the game engine, both upper and lower VRR bounds should be set by the display only. Modulo poorly implemented engines like 60 fps-hard-capped ones like Skyrim / Fallout, wher...

Re: Nvidia GPU GTX 20XX Series likely revealed @ Gamescom 20

I got my Gigabyte RTX 2080 Ti on the way thanks to NowInStock.net which let me know super fast when it showed up in stock at NewEgg.

Both times it sold out in 11 minutes since they became available briefly last week.

Re: 4k 144hz release date

Oh I agree, for most games 422 doesn't matter. But I do tons of 3D stuff in windowed mode and don't want to pay for a 144hz monitor and only get to use 98hz out of it because it doesn't support DSC. And 422 for windows desktop is horrible, as we all know. I hope DSC support in monitors comes out soo...

Re: Nvidia GPU GTX 20XX Series likely revealed @ Gamescom 20

I think I'll wait for the reviews to come in, I want the absolute best Ti model possible, for eventual SLI'ing if the RAM is doubled of course. One thing I found annoying while looking at all the vendors' options, is that the only one that has two HDMI 2.0b outputs is the Asus 2080 non-Ti. So I orde...

Lag testing for 4K Displays

Since Leo Bodnar's lag tester maxes out at 1080p60, I was wondering what's the best or standard way to measure input lag at higher refresh rates and 1440p or 4K. Some recent 4K TV reviews have lag measurements that showed considerably less latency when fed 4K signals than 1080p signals, which makes ...

Re: Nvidia GPU GTX 20XX Series likely revealed @ Gamescom 20

I've got to pick which flavour of RTX 2080 Ti to order. Any suggestions? I've decided to not do SLI right off the bat, at least until we get some confirmation of games using it for Stereo VR. I also want to make sure that NVLink actually delivers on its promise of doubling the frame buffer as it doe...

Re: 4k 144hz release date

Word of caution, with DisplayPort 1.4 you really want the monitor to support DSC compression to do HDR10 in 4:4:4 at 144hz. Otherwise you'll drop to 4:2:2 which sucks for PC desktop use. Without DSC you are limited to 98hz with DP 1.3 / 1.4 in 4:4:4 with HDR activated. And I assume most if not all o...

Re: Nvidia GPU GTX 20XX Series likely revealed @ Gamescom 20

Lots of people prefer higher quality with lower FPS, actually I would say the majority do. On consoles maybe. Playing with a controller makes 30FPS tolerable. On PC, give players who use a mouse the choice between ultra-smooth, no lag gameplay, vs stuttery, laggy gameplay that has ultra realistic g...
