Re: Will future strobing tech be suitable for retro gaming?
a lot of awesome info Thanks for the info! I'm learning a lot. Am I correct that hardware based strobing will always add some amount of input lag compared to BFI? This creates a bit of a conundrum. With hardware-based strobing you get a much brighter image with better colors (using one of the newer...

Re: Will future strobing tech be suitable for retro gaming?
... Today, we are using retina resolution to accurately spatially emulate the textures of a CRT surface. (e.g. MAME HLSL) Tomorrow, we will use retina refresh rate (>1000Hz+ sample-hold display) to accurately temporally emulate various kinds of impulse-driven displays. This may take years (e.g. 203...

Re: I want new CRT monitor...
I want to see new CRT gaming monitor from makers. I think it's safe to say no manufacturer will ever produce a CRT monitor again. Just not gonna happen. Actually, https://www.thomaselectronics.com/faq/ I don't know how much luck you'll have getting them to make a CRT monitor for personal use, thoug...

Re: VG248QE Upgrade?
I’m in the same boat, looking to upgrade from an ASUS VG248QE sometime in the near future, but none of the newest options seem like they’re worth the price. I don’t really care about Gsync, FreeSync, or 4K. I just want -next-frame input response -better brightness, color and contrast while doing str...

Re: lightboost on asus vg248qe using displayport?
I had an issue with getting the monitor to detect the Displayport signal at first. Apparently it detects the first signal type that it is connected with and then stores it in memory, and sometimes gets "stuck." I had it plugged in with HDMI, and then it wouldn't work when I connected it with Display...

Will future strobing tech be suitable for retro gaming?
Will future strobing tech be suitable for retro gaming? I'm having a conversation with Umwelt on the Libretro Retroarch forums, and he had this to say: While strobing tech can be expected to improve, I am less optimistic about its future suitability for retro gaming. What we want to emulate CRT scan...

Re: Horizontal black/white lines on ASUS VG248QE
It's know problem for 144hz monitors. I don't know what causes it but i got same on BenQ XL2411T at 120/144hz with disabled LightBoost in days when I tried LightBoost. Try to uninstall strobelight, reset to default parameters at monitor's OSD then power off PC, disconnect DVI, disconnect power from...

Re: homebrew strobe LED backlight guide?
From what you're writing, I'm assuming you have no experience with strobe backlights. Right? Yep, n00b here! I've witnessed backlight strobing and the effect it has on a friend's display but am just now getting around to doing this on my own display. I'm primarily interested in motion blur reductio...

Re: homebrew LED backlight guide?
Happy to answer the questions of the art of strobe backlights! Wow, the master wizard himself! :o I am in awe at the technical knowledge on display, here. I'm not sure I'll ever fully understand this stuff, but hopefully I can eventually understand it well enough to stop worrying about the demise o...

homebrew strobe LED backlight guide?
First off, wow- what an incredible source of information! I've learned more about how displays work from reading the articles on this site than I have from any other source, especially in regards to motion blur and input lag. I just got done reading the following: https://www.blurbusters.com/240-wat...
