How to keep 120hz on monitor when 60hz TV is connected?

Benq XL2720z is connected through dvi, tv through hdmi. But monitor automatically switch to 60hz in clone display mode. Is there a way to keep it at 120hz while tv is connected?

succesfully upgraded using girlfriends netbook, for that unpatient, read took half an hour and write more than hour, but in the final firmware is v2

what if "sudo modprobe i2c-dev" and "sudo i2cdetect -l" do nothing? i mean after enter it does not write nothing just goes to another commandline.
Output from "lsmod | grep i2c":
i2c_dev 14027 0
i2c_algo_bit 13413 1 nouveau
i am on gtx780, xl2720z connected via hdmi->vga adapter, ubuntu 14.04 ...

However, you will need high frame rates (framerate matching refreshrate) to take advantage of any low-persistence technology now on the market (strobe backlights, zero-motion-blur). Whether it is CRT, LightBoost, ULMB, or any other low-persistence technology.

thanks for your reply, this makes sense, but funny thing is that with 60hz monitor i had much more tearing than now, i dont know why it is so.
So i will ask one more simple question, do you think that gsync is worth that 150euro on 120hz monitor or how much it will be? because in that article they ...

Hi,
first of all i have read gsync previews and did not understand them :), better said only thing i understand is what it should does. Actually i have 120hz LG W2363D and i barely encounter tearing with vsync off, most games have less than 120fps, isnt tearing problem of higher fps than refresh ...
