Re: G-Sync Impressions

Yeah the overscan issue seems to be gone. I'll say one thing I'm really appreciating is the fact that the monitor turns on in less than 1 second without the NVidia board since it skips the Asus logo. Tried a few more games. Payday 2 sadly still has input lag...that seems to be an issue with the engi...

G-Sync Impressions

Some early impressions. Installation: Easy enough, though the NVidia video should probably be updated to say that the brown flap for the ribbon cable should not be lifted...I almost damaged my board my trying to do so. So far, it's everything I've hoped. The ability to play with a variable framerate...

Re: G-SYNC Upgrade Board Giveaway - FIVE boards! [complete]

I just wanted to check in and say I got my board this week! Crazy amounts of stuff going on in my life right now so I haven't had a chance to get around to installing it yet. As soon as I get a spare moment, I will get to it and post my impressions! Can't wait.

Re: Why does G-Sync require memory?

Alright so it seems that the buffer is likely needed in case the framerate ever surpasses the refresh rate of the monitor, and a high bandwidth would be needed in this case. This begs the question: can the framerate ever be too high? Can the bandwidth ever be insufficient? Frames will have to be dro...

Re: AMD demos FreeSync (free G-Sync alternative) [AnandTech]

It could be that the video card needs to measure the time difference between two frames to control the length of the vblank interval. I'm under the impression that using this method, the video card needs to predict ahead of time how long the monitor will have to hold a certain image, so it needs to ...

Re: The standalone DIY G-Sync board available?

I'd assume the premiums should fall harshly once the design is finalized and the FPGA solution is replaced with an ASIC.

Why does G-Sync require memory?

I'm just trying to think of the reasons why the G-Sync module has 768mb of onboard memory, and what the implications are, especially with regards to buffering and input lag. My current hypothesis and hope is that a buffer is only employed when the framerate surpasses the refresh rate of the monitor ...

Re: AMD demos FreeSync (free G-Sync alternative) [AnandTech]

Here is a good read on the subject: http://techreport.com/news/25867/amd-could-counter-nvidia-g-sync-with-simpler-free-sync-tech Koduri explained that this particular laptop's display happened to support a feature that AMD has had in its graphics chips "for three generations": dynamic refresh rates....

Re: G-SYNC Upgrade Board Giveaway - FIVE boards!

Congrats to the winners so far. Cirthix's post really caught my eye, I knew he'd take it. I wish I was that industrious.

And wow...never thought you could make a projector out of an LCD screen. Impressive.
