Installing the driver from the CD that came with the monitor did the trick, strobe utility works. I have absolutly no clue why the useless displypilotsoftware does not install those drivers nor do I have any understanding of why benQ does not provide those drivers themself on the webpage. Bad ...

The "Generic PnP Monitor" is a big clue -- your computer is somehow unable to communicate over the DDC/CI wire on the DVI cable. This can mean:

I am having the exact same problem. My freshly upgraded monitor is not recognized by the strobe utility.
I tried unplugging in for > 10 mins and switched the dvi-port on my gfx-card with no result. Still it says no supported monitor detect. The monitor isn't in burn in mode also.
