Re: help me choose (1080p,144hz gsync),1440p/1080p,60hz

I had a CFG70, one of the earlier models. The big stink about 'purple trails' has to do with how Samsung tuned the pixel overdrive settings. The earlier models were too aggressive, and this resulted in inverted color artifacts trailing behind objects of certain colors, though it seems to affect dark...

Re: Difficult choice! [ASUS MG279Q or Dell S2716DG?]

The two monitors have fairly different panels and capabilities that make them more suited to different use cases. The different panel technologies also come with various pros and cons, completely independent of the technology supported by the underlying electronics (variable refresh rates, backlight...

Re: Trying to decide on a new monitor

Yeah. It'd be nice to at least try. Had a minor image retention scare yesterday. I tried out the Black Frame Insertion mode of Retroarch. After only a few minutes of a 4:3 arcade game, there was some pretty substantial image burn-in. I gave it about 10 minutes of 'exercise' with an RGB pattern video...

Re: Trying to decide on a new monitor

Keep in mind that BLB changes over time. Mine had some very slight BLB in the upper right-ish region, and now it's completely gone. Later, there was a tiny bit of BLB on the right middle that wasn't there before. And then later on that got reduced to almost zero, but something appeared somewhere el...

Re: Trying to decide on a new monitor

Overall, I am quite happy with it. There was some drama with the shipment...the ASUS box that it was originally shipped in got completely waterlogged and was a mushy cardboard mess, it arrived re-packaged by UPS, so, clearly, they were the ones that allowed that to happen. Water had even penetrated ...

Re: Experience & Opinion: 240hz displays are blurry

I wasn't happy with the first 240hz monitor I bought. I felt the overdrive was poorly tuned and that I was giving up too much in image quality in order to get the extra frames. I am firmly in the camp that is prepared to give up a few ms in response times for higher quality images that you can obser...

Re: Trying to decide on a new monitor

Actually I couldn't wait lol. I looked around at some of the 2018 model IPS monitors, which was starting to break into ultrawide and 4k areas. It doesn't seem like they've made any major breakthroughs since the 2015/2016 panels. Resolutions are getting higher and the electronics surrounding the pane...

Re: LG 27GK750F-B - 240Hz, 27" 1ms Blur reduction, Freesync

Thanks, I tested the CRU settings that K2Viper posted a few pages back.. and unfortunately, it looked it a little worse for me. Right now the "gamer1" profile out of the box seems to be the best in terms of quality. This is the best gaming screen so far because of the 240hz 1ms blur reduction. Howe...

Re: Xb252Q Crosstalk 144hz ULMB (versus Samsung CFG73 'Faste

If Samsung ever produces a scanning backlight monitor that uses an IPS or TN panel, it is very likely going to be the highest performing 'ULMB'-like device out there. Their calibration and sync is top notch - generally the only visible artifacting you'll see is produced by the sluggish response time...
