Re: BenQ 2720Z vs. Panasonic ST50 for Consoles

I can tell you the best experience ive ever had it was on a ST60 plasma with intelligent frame creation at max, even on pcsx2 emulators at 30fps that are very blurry on my pc monitor, it was 100% AMAZINGLY PERFECT on the ST60. The only problem is the imput lag, but you can reduce it to an acceptabl...

Re: BenQ 2720Z vs. Panasonic ST50 for Consoles

From my CRT-using days, I know that I can't stand a 60 Hz refresh (85 minimum, unless strobing's perceived differently?), so I'd have to use the 120 option, and I understand that this would introduce a form of sample-and-hold judder? (120 // 30 == 4 frames per strobe.) You should go and check out s...

Re: V-Sync: Driver or Game?

I can't agree with that in all of my own testing. 9/10 times i've never had a single issue with frame pacing after doing what I mentioned. Well keep in mind that this is one specific game that I have been posting results from - and one which was giving me a lot of trouble. While UE3 games often see...

Re: V-Sync: Driver or Game?

But the rule of the thumb for me in all of my experiences is that most games built in Vsync is subpar. Especially UE3 games. The best frame pacing will always be a combination of> If 60+hz| In game vsync disabled. Frame cap set with RTSS to your desired refresh. Vsync forced through drivers. If 30h...

Re: V-Sync: Driver or Game?

I don't have the hardware required to measure input lag, so I was hoping that someone who does might be able to test this and see whether there is much difference. I expect that using driver-level v-sync probably does add some latency over in-game v-sync, however reducing the maximum number of pre-r...

Re: V-Sync: Driver or Game?

I have this same experience. I found that I have to force vsync in the Nvidia drivers in lots of games. In some of them, I even have to limit fps to the refresh rate with RTSS (F.E.A.R., Tomb Raider 2013 and some more games) or else I get microstuttering. There are also rare cases like Castlevania ...

I had MSI Afterburner polling at 100ms. (its minimum interval)
I know that is not ideal, since the frame time is 16.7ms, but the results were consistent and very obvious in person.

Re: Operating below the minimum refresh rate?

As for window shifting, Maximum 2x the minimum is only sufficient if your frame times are perfectly predictable. Say your range is 30 to 60hz. 1 refresh takes 16.7ms 2 takes 33.3ms If your frametime is fluctuating between 30 and 35ms, the display doesn't know if it has to force an early refresh or ...

V-Sync: Driver or Game?

I was wondering what downsides there are to using using driver-level V-Sync compared to in-game V-Sync options. Is this potentially going to add a lot of input lag? Disabling in-game v-sync and forcing v-sync in the NVIDIA drivers often seems to fix or greatly improve frame-pacing issues. Playing th...

Operating below the minimum refresh rate?

Now that FreeSync/Adaptive-Sync is finally shipping, reviews have found some limitations when comparing it against G-Sync displays. One of the main issues seems to be that once you get below the minimum refresh rate of the panel (40Hz TN/48Hz IPS) FreeSync is entirely disabled and you are left with ...
