Re: Does GSYNC work with video players?

Valyrian is strobing? Pretty much explains everything doesn't it? 24 fps x 6 after-imaging.

Re: Does GSYNC work with video players?

Hey Chief, thanks for the quick reply. Are you saying that a 24fps mkv or mp4 file in VLC media player is not running at "true 24 frames per second"? I've actually never heard "24p" before, so I'm not even sure if that means anything other than "24fps". I just assumed that if GSYNC was compatible w...

Re: Does GSYNC work with video players?

Chief, VG248QE is a lightboost model so most likely Valyrian is describing multi-image artifacts. 6x24fps is BAD. The strobing of course exaggerates the edges of moving images. And the 144 Hz refresh is a pefect interger of 24 FPS (6x) so it can't be the uneven inter-frame pulldown latency. I starte...

Re: Create an Open Standard -- for Hi-Speed Imaging & Displa

Thank's for cleaning up the subject line. ;) It may be a bit too early to start a standards initiative, and I need to grow a little bit more industry pull... Yes, that's where I see the current situation: evangelism and building activist consumer demand so industry hears it. At the very least, I wou...

Create an Open Standard -- for Hi-Speed Imaging & Display?

I have little to say on this subject so mostly I'm just throwing the idea out there with a question: with the broad latent demand for hi-speed imaging (FPS gamers to advanced GUIs to VR to UHDTV) shouldn't there be an organized community to, well, organize the demand for this technology? There is ac...

Re: Widescreen Cinematic Displays

I bet all Dolby Vision displays are 10-bit. (The LCD actually only needs no more than 150:1 contrast and 8-bit is more than enough for local contrast in a dual modulation system.) I've read the VIZIO R-series is a Sharp panel. Sharp, TCL and VIZIO are the announced Dolby partners so I bet they are u...

Re: Widescreen Cinematic Displays

I would avoid buying any 2160p displays or tvs for now. They'll likely be obsolete very soon (i.e. because of them being 8 bit). Wait until UHD standards are finalized is my advice. Lots of reasons to not jump in with current selection of low-spec, high-priced displays. But VIZIO's Dolby Vision ref...

Re: Overclockable monitors [laptop LCD overclocking]

The faster/briefer you try to refresh pixels (to finish the whole screen at higher Hz), the colors degrade. That's why colors are worse at 144Hz than at 60Hz. Chief, would you know if Low Temperature Polysilicon (LTPS) (or IGZO) would help with faster refreshes? Other than the more well-know benefi...
