And if I were to guess that these $400-$500 gaming monitors all use those cheap white LEDs... I'd be right wouldn't I?Chief Blur Buster wrote:Proper full-spectrum LED backlights can be better than CCFL. The problem is that we're often using cheap white LEDs as backlights.

Re: Hello from ASUS [official rep]
Right now we should be more concerned about color. My brand new IPS actually has worse color than my 2009 TN, apparently due to the CCFL backlight in the TN having a wider/more balanced color gamut than the LED backlight in the IPS. My TN already looked bad compared to my old CRT and current plasma ...

Re: Hello from ASUS [official rep]
The Gsync premium is the only thing that really bothers me. The world of gaming paid a high price with the move to LCDs. So many things were made worse. One thing that didn't have to get worse was input lag, which should've actually been a net improvement with asynchronous refresh. It would have eve...

Re: XL2420z lighting review
Ugh. Appalling, but not surprising. Gaming seems like an afterthought to most manufacturers. I almost wish I'd never even played a PC game. Hoping for them to get their act together year after year is maddening.

Updated card drivers? Never heard of this switch before, but are you sure it wasn't already set to dual-dvi mode? Does this happen in lots of gamers?

Price-performance, and aiming too low
"Man I really wish I could get this with variable refresh and 100hz support... why can't I?" That's what I was thinking when looking at an Asus VS24AH-P (a $230 16:10 IPS) the other day. I just stood there and shook my head in frustration, a routine I've repeated many times before. My next thought w...

Re: Buy now or wait? [strobe backlight monitors]
Definitely buy from a place with no-hassle returns if you do. But even if these monitors fall short of what you need, it might be worth it to try one just to get a feel for where the technology is. I've bought and returned several monitors. But despite the hassle I feel it was worth it because it he...

Re: XL2420Z availability?
Just in case you guys don't know, there also an XL2411Z coming. Slightly lower input lag than the XL2420Z, but with fewer inputs.

Re: ROLL CALL: Who uses LightBoost=10%?
When I had the VG248QE (bought March 2013) I actually thought Lightboost at 10% was way too dim. The reduced contrast probably influenced that perception though. Lightboost on the VG248QE cuts your contrast ratio in half... looks pretty nasty. Right now I'm not very optimistic that g-syncs monitors ...
