Would a universal ML based CRT shader be preferable to something like DLSS?
I have seen a lot of positive impressions of Nvidia technology like DLSS or AMD's CAS, and I just had a thought. I use CRT shaders quite often when using emulation, and I even watch low resolution youtube content through retroarch so I can use the CRT shader to get a vastly improved quality output. ...

Re: Why Can't/Don't OLED's have short light times?
I don't think it would be that bulky, since you wouldn't be using the MEMS scanner to draw an image on a wall like with the projector, but just to draw a line of bright white light that you could sweep from top to bottom. That little projector is tiny, and today you can buy one for $260 retail. If t...

Re: Why Can't/Don't OLED's have short light times?
"I've seen the Sony 10,000nit prototype LCD, and no OLED can get as bright as that." Chief, I had a thought. That 10,000 nit backlight has to be power hungry, and hot. Would it be feasible to take a MEMS laser scanning system and instead of drawing an image directly (like a Nebra Anybeam) shine the ...

Re: LPD: Laser Phosphor Display - Successor to CRT?
If you used an OLED as a backlight that was monochrome, but then used an LCD for a color shutter couldn't you get much better response times for GTG and color transitions? Since OLED has like .2ms transition time from White to black, if you used an LCD as a color shutter like an old LCCS CRT?

Re: With LG Announcing a 31 inch OLED will we see Blur Busters Certification
Please note that not all displays worthy of Blur Busters Certification, may get it because the manufacturer may not have expressed interest in applying for Blur Busters Certification. Please tell me you plan on doing a hacked together solution to show LG what they are missing?LOL Wouldn't a rolling...

With LG Announcing a 31 inch OLED will we see Blur Busters Certification
I remember the Chief's articles on a rolling scan OLED to achieve CRT motion clarity, and now LG has announced a 31.5 inch OLED computer monitor. Will we see blur busters certification on a display like this, and finally get a display better than CRT?

Re: LPD: Laser Phosphor Display - Successor to CRT?
Hey chief, I was just wondering something. This is going to sound heretical and probably just really stupid, but let me know what you think. What if you were to add a high quality scanning FALD backlight to an OLED? OLED suffers from burn in and image retention largely because of the voltage require...

Re: LPD: Laser Phosphor Display - Successor to CRT?
I actually think dual cell LCD is going to be the best bet for getting OLED black levels out of LCD. FALD back lights are awesome, but having a separate LCD layer for Chroma and another for Luma seems to work amazingly well. You could probably put a FALD backlight in a dual cell screen and make it e...

Re: LPD: Laser Phosphor Display - Successor to CRT?
I do not own virtual desktop, so I don't know a way to change frame rate on the OG Rift or enable single strobe. I'm sure it would look awesome with a good CRT shader. I usually use big screen with Retroarch and CRT shader, but its just running at 90hz

Re: LPD: Laser Phosphor Display - Successor to CRT?
Hey Chief, I don't have the quest 2, but I do love using the rift CV1 with emulation. Lucky for me, I have my little 13 inch CRT still, but I don't know how long it will live. Do you know what happened with Carmack's experiments with deep interlacing a display? (where 60hz could be 120 fields per se...
