Re: Interesting project about mouse/ gamepad latency

I'm not wedded to the idea of manual tracking. I came into this seeking to explain an observation. I'm open to any number of possibilities (including my data interpretation being wholly incorrect). Even if kukkii's reaction times were shown to be faster during lg than during simple detection of lum...

Re: Interesting project about mouse/ gamepad latency

One last thing about manual tracking - while I don't see the potential for Marwan's "manual tracking reflex" to exist, Rejhon's idea that continuous reactions may lower reaction time doesn't have the same story barrier against it. It's pretty easy to find a plausible reason why it might happen, alth...

Re: Interesting project about mouse/ gamepad latency

To correct a small misconception you have, ResearchGate is not a real journal. It's more like a shady back-alley dealer that visits the real journals and tries to make photocopies of everything. I don't know of anything dishonorable they've done, but it does appear pretty spammy and unpleasant to an...

Re: Interesting project about mouse/ gamepad latency

Thanks, do0om. Marwan is busy atm and is focusing on his manual tracking idea. I'm supposed to be doing math so I can't really justify writing wavelet detection code right now (finding the reaction point in real-time from 1000 Hz mouse input), but I have the rest of the framework ready, including th...

Re: Interesting project about mouse/ gamepad latency

You've got it completely backwards (again, you're making assumptions). At the time of the article, I'd played with kukkii for years, and as a long time quaker, I'd long been fascinated with high level lg performance, having experienced it for myself. That was the impetus for the article, and the ma...

Re: Interesting project about mouse/ gamepad latency

...and everyone else abandoned this thread after I started talking about critical analysis. I am pretty sure that a lot of people are reading the ongoing discussion in this thread. If so, that reflects really positively on them. Most people find something else to do when the thinking becomes diffic...

Re: Interesting project about mouse/ gamepad latency

While acknowledging that you'll improve your understanding of your method tomorrow, I'll point out one thing about the science now and introduce some background behind why the critical analysis and interpretation is so important. Scientists pick stories that look plausible and interesting. Then they...

Re: Interesting project about mouse/ gamepad latency

You can count Linus's clock, it goes to 59 and then 00. My vague recollection of my proofs from long ago is that under some conditions, pure left/right dodging is optimal. Various physics models here are AD instant constant velocity (Overwatch uses this) and AD instant constant acceleration with exp...

Re: Interesting project about mouse/ gamepad latency

I forgot about something: when I describe the optimal aim as following the trailing edge, the aimer might still want to double back in the opposite direction on occasion, even without seeing the dodger move that way. The trailing edge is only a reference, and also a bound that shouldn't be moved past.

Re: Interesting project about mouse/ gamepad latency

On the archive link I gave of humanbenchmark, you can click the back/forth arrows to see snapshots of the table at different times. This gives more info on the top times, but it's still incomplete. I dunno about Linus's phantom camera, but you weren't the only one fooled by it. Chief Blur Buster was...
