Re: Subforum addition

I think a "big tent" or "convergence" subforum that covers the common ground of the various use cases which high temporal resolution imaging and displays can serve, in addition to elite gaming, namely 1) High Frame Rate (HFR) cinema and video and 2) enhanced Graphical User Interfaces (GUI). A larger...

Re: Sub-pixels and AG coating

History http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subpixel_rendering#History Originally invented by IBM in 1988,[1] subpixel rendering was first brought to public attention by Microsoft in Windows XP as ClearType, but it was not activated by default until Windows Vista. Mac OS X uses subpixel rendering as well....

Re: Eizo FG2421

Does the Eizo still use frame rate control dithering? Is that why the color goes down? Obviously it should.

Re: My recent TN purchase. Where'd I go wrong?

DaveKap,

TN is horrible.

It's zero-viewing angle based on real world experiences.

VA and IPS versions are better. End. :)

Re: Sub-pixels and AG coating

Mapping subpixels has an additional wrinkle that nowhere in any standard has sample geometry been defined. And the idea that rgb signal "needs" rgb hardware isn't true. The rgb simply encodes a desired outcome that can be realized with any combination of techniques including different primaries (mul...

Re: Sub-pixels and AG coating

Pentile is in fact subpixel rendering. It is the very embodiment of subpixel rendering. You can't get any more subpixel rendering than distributing the energy of the subpixel primaries in a fixed hardware design. It also does share subpixels across abstract pixel boundaries, ergo it's a subpixel ren...

Re: Quest for clarity: Sub-pixels and AG coating

Pentile Blog has some great responses to critics about the subpixel geometry issue. http://pentileblog.com/ I place myself in the pro-pentile camp. The theory seems straight-forward, related as it is to the science behind color vision, chroma subsample encoding and techniques like Bayer filters. Pen...
