Why not just get the best IPS instead? I investigated using Wayland. In Ubuntu 20 I was able to use Wayland with proprietary Nvidia drivers and launched Firefox. Using WebRender I got very bad frame rates, like 80 FPS. So I still can't actually do it, unless WebRender is what's slowing it down (I can always disable it).

I prefer 144 Hz with backlight strobing. Looks better with less crosstalk.

Lowest input lag would be 280Hz, no gsync, high frame rate cap
You can try 144Hz with ELMB sync on, gsync off, 144 fps cap. At 280 I get cross-talk, but at 144 it's pretty good. This setting has the clearest motion, but slightly more input lag

That test is actually really annoying, I can get 175ms when it shows the damn thing fast enough, after 7-8 seconds I just lose concentration and get like 220ms.

try 240Hz with gsync on then also try 144 Hz with gsync off and ELMB-Sync on (so normal not synced strobing)
Gsync could solve the issue with inconsistent frame rate, but ELMB-Sync (no gsync) has the clearest motion to me
