Re: flood's input lag measurements

Yeah, I think internally the engine does everything as fast as possible, and only after a buffer swap does it hold out on initiating the next cycle, probably with some math going on to predict complexity of the next scene and get a rendering estimate. Externally, programs just force the pipe to wait...

Re: flood's input lag measurements

I think what Chief said about that holds true and did show up in a short series of 1kfps input lag tests I performed. External frame control is not synchronized with the engine tick or vice versa, so the added interval waits by frame capping with external means fall to random points of engine activi...

Re: Timer Resolution, ACK, TCP Delay, etc

Timer Resolution does not reduce input lag. download.microsoft.com/download/3/0/2/3027D574-C433-412A-A8B6-5E0A75D5B237/Timer-Resolution.docx Basically, the timer resolution is the tick rate of Windows and determines scheduling precision of thread activity in terms of software operations (driver task...

Re: flood's input lag measurements

I think the analogy Sparky used was pretty convenient. Think of a supermarket (CPU). Customers (frames) fill their shopping bags with the stuff they need (your input) and then head to the checkout (GPU). If the customers are slower at finding the stuff they need than the checkout can deal with them,...

Re: flood's input lag measurements

Just saying when frame rendering times are more consistent, the lag results should be as well. I'm actually most interested in external frame limiters. What Chief said about that in terms of the internal cap being sync'd with the overall rendering process while external forcing sleep potentially aft...

Re: flood's input lag measurements

Cool. Any chance you can be bothered to throw different pre-render values into the mix? I. e. pre-render 1-3 uncapped mqm 0-2 vs. pre-render 1-3 capped mqm 0-2. The pre-render setting "use application setting" would be interesting as well with differing queue modes. I find it strange that there's mo...

Re: flood's input lag measurements

Please repeat those mmq tests with frame caps.

Really does start to look like your notion of nothing really mattering beyond framerate/refresh rate holds true though. Still interested in those VSync results (3buffer, cap below refresh) and internal vs. external frame limiters as well.

Re: Measuring keyboard input lag

The inputs are still treated seperately. I also don't think there's any prioritizing between either of them (at least if they share host controller chips/IRQ) - poll time variance is enough to decide which input gets to a program first either way.

Re: flood's input lag measurements

lol, at this rate you'll make people wear electrostatically cancelling gloves while playing.

Looks good. Again, looking forward to any tests you care to perform.

Re: Nvidia or AMD for competitive gaming ?

so tell me guys, how do i make csgo as laggy as possible Most of the settings are indeed more performance-oriented than directly related to input lag. But I guess you could turn up FXAA/Anisotropic filtering, set pre-render to 4 or application-controlled with multicore rendering enabled, set csgo p...
