RealNC wrote:Oh, btw, your mainboard's chipset needs to support this. Some chipsets do NOT allow you to raise the CPU's multiplier, and thus you can't OC.

If you have a P67 or Z68 chipset, you can OC. The H67 and H61 chipsets can NOT OC.

Ok perfect, thanks again for all of your help!

Re: Please help - Best 144hz gaming monitor

Some mainboards do support both Sandy Bridge (2xxx) as well as Ivy Bridge (3xxx) CPUs, but you'd need to check that to make sure. Those who do support it usually need a BIOS update, and you need to do that BEFORE you upgrade the CPU. Also, many such mainboards offer limited support for Ivy Bridge K...

Re: Please help - Best 144hz gaming monitor

I would wait and see how G-Sync works out for you. It might do a good enough job at preventing stutters for you in the games you play. But an i5 2300 is very weak. At some point you will need to upgrade, that's true. You might want to look for a used i5-2500K or i7-2700K. They might be cheap to fin...

Re: Please help - Best 144hz gaming monitor

With g-sync disabled, it will handle it the same way as the VG248QE. With g-sync enabled, it will handle it better, since FPS drops won't be as noticeable. With the VG248QE, if you play at 120Hz for example and the game drops to 90FPS, you get stutter. With the PG248Q and g-sync enabled in the nvid...

Re: Please help - Best 144hz gaming monitor

The cheapest should be the AOC G2460PG. But it's an AOC which has the reputation of being the cheapest brand. Reviews don't look bad though. It's still quite expensive though. But other g-sync monitors are even more expensive. That g-sync module doesn't come cheap. If I was buying a 24", I'd probab...

Re: Please help - Best 144hz gaming monitor

If you don't want G-Sync, then it seems the LG 24GM77 has good reviews. It does use a double-strobe technique though when you enable motion blur reduction, which completely eliminates visible flicker (you get 200Hz/240Hz strobing instead of 100Hz/120Hz,) but can result in a double-image effect as a...

Please help - Best 144hz gaming monitor

In short, I tried the ASUS VG248QE last month and it was causing some eye strain / pain and also giving me slight headaches. I then switched to the BenQ XL2430 for the flicker free / PWM free technology. The 2430 monitor is good, however, the ASUS VG248QE had a little better fine detail in the graph...

Re: Asus eyecare monitors for low blue light and flicker-fre

Why did you buy such an old monitor? The VG248QE is over 5 years old now, and many new models have replaced it, with have Gsync, Freesync, and are all PWM free. The VG248QE was known for having outstanding overdrive quality but extremely good settings Asus used (provided you let the monitor warm up...

Re: Asus eyecare monitors for low blue light and flicker-fre

Hello! The EyeCare monitors is basically "F.lux" built into the monitor. So are the BENQ equivalents. So it's as good as F.lux in helping out. If F.lux helps you then yes EyeCare works for you, as it's essentially the same technique. But it can go above and beyond by being PWM-free. (VG248QE is not...
