Re: Pre-rendered frames etc. (continued from G-Sync 101 arti

@jorimt, @RealNC: Thank you again for your time, effort, and valuable information! Also I apologize for the response delay due to a couple of days vacation. I try to sum up my understanding taken from both of your replies: - frames piling up does not actually mean rendered frames, but the CPU part o...

Re: Pre-rendered frames etc. (continued from G-Sync 101 arti

The reason this happens is rather simple. In the past, doing the flip would block. Meaning the API function that you call to do the flip would not return until the flip was performed. With vsync, it meant it would block until the next vblank. Now, this function (usually a present() related function...

Re: Pre-rendered frames etc. (continued from G-Sync 101 arti

Before I read your article I never knew about the over-queuing of rendered frames. I myself had only worked with simple front/back buffer flips, one per unit. I would be particularly interested in - whether this is an intended feature As far as I know, it's exclusive to double buffer V-SYNC, as wel...

Re: Pre-rendered frames etc. (continued from G-Sync 101 arti

Initially I even decided against the display and IPS technology in general for gaming because of this high latency value. Later I opted that I can live with it, particularly because of the great image this display delivers as compared to my old TN. I updated my post though. I was wrong about their ...

Re: Pre-rendered frames etc. (continued from G-Sync 101 arti

Again thank you so much for the incredible amount of time you put into answering my questions! And for all the additional information you have given me (including the off the record tests of frame limiters). I also understand that you have your particular areas of expertise and that others might be ...

Re: Pre-rendered frames etc. (continued from G-Sync 101 arti

Prad used two latency tests in the linked review of the LG. Leo Bodnar through HDMI at 60Hz, and their own method. The LB results were 11.2ms, 14ms and 17.1ms for the upper, center and lower region of the display respectively. Their own latency test is done on DisplayPort at the highest refresh rat...

Pre-rendered frames etc. (continued from G-Sync 101 article)

@jorimt: Thank you very much for your reply to my questions! Here is what I had asked: I know I am a little late to the party, but I would like to ask something. I find it a little sad that G-Sync just as V-Sync allows for excessive frames to stack up. I have a powerful GPU and so I am (luckily) ver...
