Re: Widescreen Cinematic Displays

A 21:9 / 2.35:1 display would look nice while it's showing native content but not so much showing standard 16:9 content. Most movies aren't shot widescreen but rather in 1.85:1. But it would make a good pc monitor that can show a custom source resolution from a computer when not being used to view m...

Re: VIZIO P-Series 4K Ultra HD has blur-reducing game mode

I assumed the game mode is true 120Hz input bypassing any fancy buffering. Either the term revolutionary is marketing fluff or it's actually something novel. And Yay! Vizio has it's own thread. I think these displays are the ones to watch. I'm really excited about the partnership with Dolby in imple...

Re: DDC/CI Software Backlight Strobing?

Strobe length consistency is more important than strobe timing consistency (depending on how large the blanking interval is). Chief, is there an opportunity for variable strobe length and timing, as long as more important factors such as average light output are maintained? This is obviously releva...

VIZIO P-Series 4K Ultra HD has blur-reducing game mode

Vizio is doing the bargain basement pricing thing too. No mention of any displays smaller than 50" but the basic series feature full-array backlights. The reference series seem to be the Dolby Vision (lite) models. No mention of input specs either. Street prices should be Seiki territory. http://www...

Re: SEIKI 4K 39" HDTV now capable of true 120Hz 1920x1080

Seiki 65" is now down to $1,387.89. *How low can it goooo* EDIT: Can anyone confirm Seikis have backlight blanking/blinking/scanning (but probably not full image strobing)? And it is a fixed Hz regardless of content framerate? A 60Hz scan seems odd and would have issues with double-flash artifacts f...

Re: SEIKI 4K 39" HDTV now capable of true 120Hz 1920x1080

I haven't found any via Google. But it was just released in December. Maybe some talk on the RED forums. I'll check later. This Amazon review of the 50" is pretty bad. If this is what Seiki is doing with all their displays it's a deal-breaker even more than the 30 Hz limit. http://www.amazon.com/rev...

Chief, there should be an official Seiki thread because HOLY CRAP the 65" just hit sub-$1,500 pricing. You should update your Amazon links. ;)

Re: LG 34UM95 - 34" 21:9 3440x1440 [better 21:9 resolution]

Large 21:9/2.35:1 displays are great for scope movies, and that's where 4K res is guaranteed to pay off, but would be terrible to use as an everyday display for typical 16:9 video content. Maybe as a video wall TV. As a convergence device is where it would shine, as when not displaying scope movies ...
