Apex Legends 360hz
Apex Legends 360hz
Hey, I have the AW2523HF 360hz monitor, and on apex legends everytime i launch it it sets itself to anything but 360hz, for example without changing anything in CRU it sets to 300hz, when I delete 300hz it goes down to the next one thats not deleted, 240, 165, 144, 120, 60 etc.
When I delete everything apart from 360hz only then it works but if I do that other DX12 games (Marvel Rivals, Payday 3 etc.) for some reason launch with a black screen and weird lines almost like its a interlaced resolution. Now, without deleting any resolution and just adding a 359hz option magically works, the game boots up in 359hz, if i add a resolution higher then 360hz for example 370hz, the game for some reason launches in 370hz (not supported). And yes, I know Apex Legends is capped at 300fps but playing on anything but 360hz even if its not 360fps, looks weird, almost like its grainy.
Any help or pointers to a previous thread would be much appreciated, I havent really been able to find anyone with this specific issue.
(first time posting in this forum, apologize if im in the wrong category)

Re: Apex Legends 360hz
Add:
to the launch options and see if that helps.
Code: Select all
-freq 360

Re: Apex Legends 360hz
I tried already, I forgot to mention im trying to play 1440x1080 stretched, which is most likely part of the problem
Re: Apex Legends 360hz
Does it work with native res? If yes, then forcing GPU scaling might help.

Re: Apex Legends 360hz
Problem: I'm having trouble changing my monitor's resolution from its native 2560x1440. Here's what I've tried:
Using CRU (Custom Resolution Utility) and NVIDIA Control Panel to set different resolutions
Attempting to use the following resolutions:
1680x1050
1440x1080
1080x1920
Current behavior:
The monitor only changes input signal when switching to 720p or 480p
When trying higher custom resolutions, the display stays at 2560x1440
Attempting to use display scaling with these custom resolutions results in no signal
The only way to recover is waiting for the auto-revert feature
Question: Is it possible that my Alienware AW2721D monitor simply cannot support switching to these specific resolutions (1680x1050, 1440x1080, 1080x1920)?

auto / pc native / extract / extract reduced
also, try use SRE.exe to delete gpu scaling resolution.
Re: Apex Legends 360hz
I've tried all the suggested presets (Auto, PC Native, Extract, and Extract Reduced)Slender wrote: ↑03 Feb 2025, 13:16try to use different presetHumphrey wrote: ↑01 Feb 2025, 20:27Problem: I'm having trouble changing my monitor's resolution from its native 2560x1440. Here's what I've tried:

Following the recommendation, I used SRE.exe to remove GPU scaling resolutions
I've gone further by attempting custom timing configurations through CRU's manual preset with DisplayID 1.3 extension block
Unfortunately, the monitor's G-Sync Ultimate module seems to be extremely restrictive in accepting any new resolution configurations
Being one of the first 1440p 240Hz monitors, my unit is still running the original firmware (v1), and Dell hasn't provided any upgrade path for users with older firmware versions. Also I appreciate your posts on this forum I've been browsing it for a while. Found SRE through one of your posts.

try your main + def 60hz + custom res only
Re: Apex Legends 360hz
Thanks for the suggestions! I've done extensive testing since my last post and found some interesting results using PresentMon to measure performance.Slender wrote: ↑04 Feb 2025, 12:06try your main + def 60hz + custom res onlyHumphrey wrote: ↑04 Feb 2025, 01:46I've tried all the suggested presets (Auto, PC Native, Extract, and Extract Reduced)Slender wrote: ↑03 Feb 2025, 13:16try to use different presetHumphrey wrote: ↑01 Feb 2025, 20:27

After trying various configurations, I found the most stable and performant setup to be:
1680x1050 desktop resolution (though monitor stays at 1440p input signal)
1680x1050 in-game resolution
GPU scaling (Fullscreen mode in NVIDIA Control Panel)
Reflex enabled + Boost
EDC set to 110A
Performance metrics showed:
CPU Max: ~12ms (with very rare spikes)
Average CPU busy time: 3.84ms
Frame time variance: 0.52ms StdDev
No consistent spikes above 15ms
Regarding custom timings in CRU - I also tried the DisplayID 1.3 extension block approach but found the G-Sync module to be very restrictive with custom resolutions, even with G-Sync disabled. The monitor seems to prefer handling scaling through GPU rather than accepting custom signal timings.
The current setup, while showing good metrics in PresentMon, sometimes feels like there are refresh rate drops or minor stutters during gameplay. The monitor seems to be particularly strict about handling non-native resolutions, even when the metrics suggest everything is working well. I'm curious if other AW2721D owners have found similar behavior with custom resolutions.
