Floaty Mouse - Input Lag (Intel 14600KF)

Post by fjoecs » 14 Mar 2025, 21:03

Hello,

I'm playing CS2 at a competitive level (10K+ hours in-game). About a year ago, I upgraded my PC to Intel 14th Gen and DDR5 RAM. After the upgrade, I noticed that my mouse felt floaty and less responsive compared to before.

Moreover, I played LAN tournament using the exact same devices, mousepad, and settings, yet the mouse on LAN felt significantly more responsive.

During my year of using the Intel 14600KF, I discovered some ways to improve mouse responsiveness. However, the problem has always persisted. The only changes that helped me slightly were BIOS settings:
  • Power Profile: Intel Baseline
  • C-States: Disabled
  • SpeedShift: Disabled
  • E-Cores: Disabled
Before applying these settings, I used to disable the XMP profile to improve mouse responsiveness, which helped significantly. However, after applying the BIOS settings mentioned above, enabling XMP no longer affects mouse responsiveness.

What also significantly improved my mouse responsiveness was uninstalling the Chipset Driver and disabling a few devices in Device Manager:
  • Intel(R) LPC Controller / eSPI Controller
  • Intel(R) LPSS: I2C Controller
  • Intel(R) Management Engine Interface
  • Intel(R) Shared SRAM
  • Intel(R) SMBus
  • Intel(R) SPI (Flash) Controller
The biggest difference could be felt after disabling Intel(R) SMBus and Intel(R) LPC Controller / eSPI Controller.

I've read numerous threads and forum discussions, where many people report mouse responsiveness (input lag) issues with Intel 13th and 14th Gen CPUs. Some suggest the problem is related to voltage, specifically System Agent and VCCIO.

I have a fresh and optimized Windows 11 installation, and my system specs are:
Motherboard: ASRock Z790 PG Lightning
CPU: Intel 14600KF
GPU: AMD 5700XT
RAM: Kingston DDR5 2×16GB (5600MHz)

Does anyone know how to fix this issue or further improve mouse responsiveness?

If you are like most people here, you probably won't find a solution.

That's why, in my opinion, you should first check if you can revert the issue by using your old parts again. Worst case, you will still have the issue. But if the problem is fixed by that, it might help finding the root cause.

Or just check again in other place if you noticed difference at LAN. Just check low hanging fruits first until you invest more.

write your previous build:
psu, mobo, cpu, gpu, ram, ssd.
write all your current build.

ok, im see changes only in mobo / cpu / ram
i think you need to try make power cons on your 14600k like 3600x.
For do it you can disable ecores and HT.
ecores two ways:
bcdedit /set numproc 12 (set 6 if HT off)
disable via bios (can cause issues with wdf01000.sys, power off after pc on first time, etc.)
Disable HyperThreading.
Set your max turboboost freq, or just set x50 multiplayer (45 ring), you can leave voltage default, if it 1.1 or 1.2 max u can leave that or set manually. set AC/DC 1/1.
you need to reduce cpu consumption.

I'll try it. Thank you very much. By the way, I tried your mouse fix with device manager and it helped me as well :geek:

yes, you need to reduce the consumption by half relative to your power supply

Thanks once again,i did have HyperThreading for amd disabled,but i did not have the bcdedit part so did it,the only thing left this:

"Set your max turboboost freq, or just set x50 multiplayer (45 ring), you can leave voltage default, if it 1.1 or 1.2 max u can leave that or set manually. set AC/DC 1/1. "

on intel mb / cpu there is option in bios called "AC" and "DC" right? but on my amd pc i dont know if there is such thing,and also the name for it.
the only thing i change in bios becides loading xmp profile #2 ,i change this in bios:

Setup Question = CPU Boost Clock Override
Token =99 // Do NOT change this line
Offset =AD
Width =01
Options =[00]Disabled // Move "*" to the desired Option
*[01]Enabled (Positive)
[02]Enabled (Negative)

Setup Question = Max CPU Boost Clock Override(+)
Token =9A // Do NOT change this line
Offset =AE
Width =01
Value =<200>

but if someone can explain,when i export bios via scewin it says it is like this :

Setup Question = CPU Boost Clock Override
Token =99 // Do NOT change this line
Offset =AD
Width =01
Options =*[00]Disabled // Move "*" to the desired Option
[01]Enabled (Positive)
[02]Enabled (Negative)

Setup Question = Max CPU Boost Clock Override(+)
Token =9A // Do NOT change this line
Offset =AE
Width =01
Value =<25>

but the moment i enter bios it is enabled and its 200 how ?
