Input lag issues on new setup with MPG 271QRX

Post by Kontepellar » 25 Aug 2025, 04:47

Greetings!

I recently upgraded my setup, mainly for playing Rocket League. Struggled earlier with inconsistent input lag both online and offline, mainly heavy controller feeling, even after replacing several different controllers and overclocking. My old rig was getting fairly stable 500fps+, while new setup runs the game at 1000 fps easily. Fresh W11 installed several times, and I've tried different tweaks with no luck.

So I've more or less ruled out hardware or performance issues at this point. But it feels very odd. I replaced my old TUF VG279QM (280hz ips) with MPG 271QRX (360hz oled) and I'm pretty certain that I'm struck with more input lag at the new powerful setup with fast monitor. Even if the game looks crisp, smooth and runs at 1000fps in 1440p, it feels like playing in slow motion. I've gone through pretty much every setting in the monitor and nvidia/windows, and the only way I'm able to consistently recreate the problems and reduce input lag is by changing/reducing resolution, or setting brightness/contrast to as low as I can. At 0 brightness/contrast the game feels like it should (comparable to old rig at 1080p), but the moment i adjust the monitor sliders the game moves like syrup.

I'm not the most tech-savvy gamer around, but as far as my research goes, this shouldn't be an issue. I'm having a hard time believing this is a perception thing, as hopping between monitor settings on the fly so drastically changes the way I'm able perform specific mechanics I've spent several thousand hours practicing. I'm getting a bit desperate looking for answers at this point.

At the moment I'm getting the best results running the ingame resolution at 1080, monitor at 360hz, ingame fps capped at 720 or 900, while also reducing monitor brightness/contrast to the bare minimum. But forcing these settings are limiting visuals a lot and affecting my performance.

I'm aware people are struggling with input lag in all forms and shapes in all types of games, but I was hoping someone would be able to share some knowledge or give me some advice on further troubleshooting this is issue.

* The monitor has been in this state since setting it up 8 months ago. Is it possible that it's just bricked?
- Is it possible to send it in to MSI for service or something like this?
* It doesn't make sense to me that I'm experiencing severe input lag at native res (1440), while 1080 feels better, even if the system runs at more than 1k fps regardless of resolution/settings. Are there any logical explanations to this?
* Is it possible it's just a perception thing? Is poor sleep and old age catching up to me? 8-)
* I've experienced better/worse performance earlier when swapping accounts and platform (epic/steam), but i'm not able to recreate these results consistently.

Current setup:
* 4070 Ti Super, i7-14700F, 32gb 6000mhz ram, asus b760-plus motherboard, Corsair RMe Series RM850e PSU
* Dualsense controller, overclocked 8000 polling rate, tested thoroughly.
* Monitor: MSI 27" MPG 271QRX (2560x1440QD-OLED, 360hz, 0.03ms)
- Tested all settings, not using Vsync in any form, DSC seems to have some impact, but not significant results compared to res/brightness settings.

Let me know if any other information is required to provide a better picture of the issue.
