Second xhci USB Controller not getting utilized + BONUS question

Post by mojosan » 14 Nov 2023, 10:48

Specs:
i5-12500h
RTX 3060M (105W)
16GB DDR4@3200
1TB nvme

When i check my USB tree via device manager or usb viewer i see all my peripherals are connected to the same controller. All ports are getting used so i was wondering why this is the case. Ignore the USB Stick. Usually there is a USB mic attached.

My problem is a floaty, unresponsive mouse feeling in valorant.

Bonus question: anyone here has a recommendation and/or experience setting up processlasso for my 4p 8e-cores 16 threads cpu - only for valorant. I mostly run 0;2;4;6 + 4 e-cores the hyperthreads disabled because it gives my the most consistent frametimes in capframex.

Using 0-7 with e cores disabled gives me the most fps but i guess the HT causes some sluggishness. Using only the P-Cores gives me the best responsivness but can cause freezing and massive drops.

Up until now my config was
ProBalance off
HAGS on
Gamemode on
NV Threaded Optimization on
Priority high
I/O Priority high
Win32sep 16 /26 / 2a
W11 23H2

using bcdedit /set disabledynamictick does not change much

I bet you're using "high performance" as power plan. that is not suitable for for P/E cpus, use balanced instead with manual tweaking.

Remove process lasso, W11 scheduler does a really good job on scheduling the right cores/threads.

You're getting problems ( I am 99% sure) because of the power plan.

Some things that may help:
disable intel speedstep in bios;
msi v3 utility (put the tick on msi-compatible devices);
disable nic offload;
check if disconnecting the lan cable helps;

try also AtlasOS W11

using Bitsum highest performance plan right now; can you elaborate why the powerplan messes with my input ? Also since iam using a non k CPU, i can only use turbo boost to reach good clocks on my p cores. Using balanced drops my clock to 3700

I tried uninstalling processlasso and while sometimes the game was smoother - there were times when cores got randomly parked and made it significantly worse

Power modes manage the system power saving features, I don't have the specific setting that messes up the CPU but I solved frame time spikes with "balanced mode" (13900k).

Just try the legacy balanced power mode.

If you're worried about the boost, I do believe that stable frametimes are way more important than a few fps more.

About the USB controller, I think the first one is for usb-c.
That's why you're using only the other one.

Also make sure that you don't have dpi override enabled on exe properties

I checked my frametimes with capframex and regarding frametime stability there is no difference.

Also my Laptop only has 1 USB-C Port, which is the USB-DAC - which is also connected on the 2nd controller as you can see.
