Can somebody explain this? [Apex Legends issue]

Post by Stimpy7314 » 02 Aug 2022, 14:16

Hello guys,

I've been experiencing very bad performance in Apex legends, not fps wise but mouse movement wise. Let me explain, if i move my mouse to make a turn or if i want to aim at somebody it feels so damm choppy.

If i play in firing range mode the issue is gone, all movement seems to be smooth, aiming doesn't suck and everything plays faster then in a normal match. I've been trying to fix this for a year now and I'm giving up at this point. Their forum helpers aren't even helpful and the developers doesn't seem to care, they ignore this issue.

Specs/What I've tried so far:

CPU:Amd ryzen 5 3600
GPU:Gtx 1660 super
RAM:Kingston fury beast3200mhz16-17-17-18-36
MB:Asrock b450m steel legend bios p4:30
PSU:Corsair cv550
------
Things I've tried:
stock windows 20h2
stock windows 21h2
stock windows 7 sp1
125hz, 500hz, 1000hz polling
different usb ports (usb 2, usb 3, front panel)
all devices unplugged except mouse
different mouse, different keyboard, different mousepad
180fps cap, 160fps cap, uncapped fps, 141fps cap, 144fps cap
r5apex low priority, high priority
mouse interrupt cpu affinity
different nvidia drivers
cpu underclock
cpu overclock
cpu stock (stock bios)
hyperthreading on, off
different monitor
entirely different rig (gtx 1080 ti amd ryzen 7 2700x)
Tried legacy mode & mbr
Different power plans
Power saving features all on in bios and off
Updated bios to latest/ used a previous bios version
Used rtss & gsync combo & vsync on
Gpu undervolt
Gpu overclock
Rgb off & led mb
All fans in dc mode & full speed & silent mode
blocked windows updates & driver updates
hags off / on & msi mode on/off
tried pcie wifi card & pcie network card, both from intel
brought my pc to different locations
used different vpn's, warp+, nordvpn, shurfshark, exitlag
used mobile hotspot, 4g+ and 5g (tmobile)
unplugged useless cables in pc
removed all fans
xmp on/off, single channel, dual channel, also overclock it with lower timers
1600dpi/3200dpi
high quality hdmi/dp cable
sftp cat6a cable
used different firmwares on my router, also tweaked a bunch of settings.

I've watched some famous apex streamers and their game seems to be very smooth as far i can tell. Their game is much quicker. Its actually really unfair that I'm dealing with this and other people aren't

Nice help
Note -- reminder of the "Be Nice" forum rule.

Sometimes medium-shorter posts will be more quickly answered, while longer posts may be skipped over. I witnessed forum members reply later.

Your post is missing information (what gaming monitor are you using? What sync technology are you using?) because refresh rate harmonics versus framerate, is part of the stutter math. Missing information makes it harder to answer your post. Some people solved the Apex Legends stuttering problem with RTSS Scanline Sync + an intentional refresh rate lowered to about 25%-50% lower than Apex' maximum frame rate -- intentional lowering of refresh rate is an unexpected stutter-fix tool for certain situations because it is much easier to force perfect framerate=Hz (with lower lag and fewer stutters than VSYNC ON, if properly calibrated), but I can't yet recommend this fix without knowing the monitor, the refresh rate you're currently using, and your historical Apex framerate (min/max).

For Apex Legends Scanline Sync instructions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rR0XVIgKAwA -- but first, before you do it, lower your refresh rate to roughly to the bottom of your framerate valley (roughly around your 0.1% worst frametime). This then becomes an impressive stutter-filter for Apex.

Anyway,

Try revios 10/11.
Try to reset your bios & reconfigure again. Try to find a suitable voltage for ram, cpu, system voltage, vccio & manually put them instead of auto. If 4g decode/rebar is enabled, try to test with disable. Try to put mouse in port 1(use usb tree viewer).
.
Use powersettingexplorer & use
-Allow Throttle States - Off
-USB 3 Link Powermanagement - Off
-USB Selective Suspend - Disabled
.
Use ultra performance powerplan if skipped revios.

Sorry chief but if i see 180 viewers on my post then i expect atleast a reaction. But okay i'll wait next time. Back to topic.

- My monitor is a aoc 24g2u 144hz 1ms. Atm I'm using no gsync or either vsync. (Used your guide in the past that didn't seem to help either, also with rtss and scanline sync. It is definitely not a stutter, at certain area's it just feels jittery. Sometimes they go away and my game is then completely smooth. Actually 144hz feeling.

- I can confirm that i do not have this issue in other games

I've tried revios before, actually 2 weeks ago. The problem is, every tweak i did seems to help but then after a match things got worse again.

- The thing is if i clear cmos and let everything at default and play any game except apex legends. Its still smoother then apex. Idk whats wrong with apex legends. I'm thinking that it could be their datacenters having a bad connection/routing with my internet. But since i went to different locations and used a vpn and hotspot. It has to be their game optimization

If other games are ok(assuming online mp games) , then i think its apex games problems with your isp, but since you already tried in other location (assuming other brand isp) then its apex sided problem ig. I don't play apex, so can't confirm about the issue from my end.
Did you tried to verify files or redownload full game? Though online games should not find any matches if any data is corrupted.

Yeah i did verified and redownloaded apex a few times now.

I should quit apex if this keeps happening tbh... Its so weird because like i said at the end of my post, if i watch a streamer playing apex their game is so different, its actually insane. They hit pretty much everything without having to aim good. I can do that to but thats only in the firing range mode, as soon i jump into a real match the feeling is so different. Also when i play during nighttime the issues are pretty much half-gone (sometimes not always)

That the game runs fine in firing range indicates that your pc for some reason isnt fast enough to handle 141 fps without stutter. How is it handling Arena(less demanding than regular game) and are Temps OK?

Perhaps you can try to lock it att 100 fps with RTSS and see if firing range / regular match feels the same? Noting that a few seasons back, 3600/1660s managed ~90 fps 1%low and ~80 fps 0.1%low @1080 low settings.

Following the guide below gives me the best frame times in Apex for my hardware: https://www.reddit.com/r/CompetitiveApe ... ame=iossmf

In a CMD prompt- run "powercfg /a"

If it lists anything under "available", then disable it.

My PC had sleep state 3 available, and once I disabled it through group policy, it seemed to help with some performance issues.
