Aspect Ratio vs No Scaling - latency difference?

Post by Leot » 23 Sep 2022, 23:01

In the Nvidia Control Panel, under 'Adjust desktop size and position' there are settings to adjust the scaling mode. In my experience, swapping between 'Aspect Ratio' and 'No Scaling' feels like there's a change in input latency. For example, I'll play in a multiplayer match of an FPS for a little bit with scaling set to 'Aspect Ratio', then mid-match I switch to 'No Scaling'. My aim does feel different after switching, but I can't tell which one I prefer. I've gone back and forth between 'Aspect Ratio' and 'No Scaling' a lot.

I've seen some users say 'No Scaling' lowers input latency, but I've also seen some posts saying 'No Scaling' actually adds EXTRA input latency. I would like some actual data to see if there's a difference, but I don't have the tools to measure latency, such as a Nvidia LDAT or a monitor with Reflex Latency Analyzer. Do you feel a difference when swapping between the two scaling modes? Maybe someone can help out?

At native resolution? Or is there actual scaling involved and the two options result in different image sizes?

Have always felt that between those options, no scaling feels more responsive, whereas for me aspect ratio feels a little draggier. Full screen also feels quite janky, I would stick to no scaling.

Yes there’s a difference in mouse control, but probably not input latency

Dont know why people are messing arround with this. i only use this, when i want stretched resolution ingame or blackbars.

I believe because the default setting is aspect ratio.
