fluctuating mouse polling rate? FIXED

Post by kPhobos » 15 Oct 2022, 09:20

Hi, this might be a dumb question, by can someone explain to me why my mouse isnt running constant 1000hz pollingrate? when i start doing slower movement, the pollingrate lowers to the point where i see dips down to 50hz, but if i move the mouse fast, it will run 1000hz. is this normal? or is there a way to fix this?

as described you can see in this picutre, that i was moving my mouse "fast" in the beginning, and slowed down a bit no long after

Image

the mouse is a pulsar xlite v2 wireless using the PAW3370 sensor, if im not mistaken.

EDIT: an example of what im talking about, i dont know of this is normal or not

phpBB [video]

another edit:

i tried doing the same exact testing on the zowie tester, and the test shown in my video with a Logitech G pro wireless, i bought on release day, so it has some years and use behind it. super slow speeds, and slow speeds only dipped to 450hz, but on the other hand it would go up to 2190hz at high speeds (see picture)
Image

it would however have alot more "desync" between pointer location, and mouse location, like shown on the green and red highlight. note that this is a test made from the exact same kovaaks scenario, which i played on the video in my previous edit.

LAST EDIT:

contacted @RealDrunKev on twitter, and he sent me some commands i put into CMD, which made a static speed pollingrate go from fluctuating upwards of 500hz, to only 20hz. he later sent a few other commands, which lowered this value even further, to only 5hz in fluctuation!
Image

Ignore the red box, it is consistently red for every single update, since i changed pointerspeed in windows to 8, rather than 6(default), so its on purpose. did the same test with default pointerspeed settings, which gave same results, but without the red highlights ofc.

This is normal for wireless mice. It is done to save the battery life, since 1000hz is very hard on the battery and shortens it by nearly 2x, so nothing to worry about here. If you still don't want it, maybe you can try installing the software for your mouse (if it has one) and see if there is any option to disable any power savings.

I have to disagree with you, my Plugable Performance Gaming Mouse PMW 3360 Optical Sensor is very much a Wired Mouse with the same as OP 1000Hz polling rate, yet it gives me the same fluctuating polling rate in all polling tests it goes down to 50 Hz when I barely move the mouse and up to 1050 Hz when I move the mouse constantly and fast.

All the USB and device's power saving settings are Off in my case, so it's probably something else or that's normal and how it's supposed to be, I hope someone else with the wired mouse could do the test and share the results here to see if there is any difference.

So you are saying that mice with cable don't have less hz when moving slow? That doesn't sound right

Do you have stable 1000 hz while moving mouse fast, like in this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ltd_5MazTgM

it is semi consistently 1000hz, it varies between 900 and 1100hz at high speed, which is a suspiciously large variation of pollingrate, and i dont know if it should be going over 1khz, since its advertised as "up to 1000hz"

some commands i put into CMD
what commands did you use?
bcdedit /deletevalue useplatformtick
bcdedit /deletevalue disabledynamictick

*reboot pc after this, and ensure you run CMD as admin*

this put my fluctuation down from 500+hz, to about 20.

the following was put into CMD run as admin, which reduced it even further, to only 5hz max in fluctuation.

bcdedit /deletevalue x2apicpolicy
bcdedit /deletevalue tscsyncpolicy
bcdedit /deletevalue uselegacyapicmode
bcdedit /set nx OptIn

then add this one
bcdedit /set useplatformclock no

and reboot again.

after talking to him, he posted a thread about it aswell, referencing my forum post here to explain the issue
