Video of the impact Discord can have on 8k polling mice

Post by Vocaleyes » 06 Dec 2022, 16:54

As you can see, 8k is unusable when discord is open or minimised.

Do you experience the same if the Discord window is closed but the program open?
Or notice the same when all hardware acceleration is disabled?
CPU: AMD R7 5800x3D ~ PBO2Tuner -30 ~ no C states
RAM: Gskill Bdie 2x16gb TridentZ Neo ~ CL16-16-16-36 1T ~ fine tuned latency
GPU: ASUS TUF 3080 10G OC Edition(v1/non-LHR) ~ disabled Pstates ~ max oced
OS: Fine tuned Windows 10 Pro, manual tuned.
Monitor: Alienware AW2521H ~ mix of ULMB/Gsync @ 240hz/360hz

I always ensure HAGS is disabled in everything, and yes, if the window is minimized but app still running in taskbar, it still lags. It's only once process is closed.

First you need to disable hardware acceleration
if that is not enough for you
you can debloat discord by removing the non essential modules from the app
you will have to re-do this after each update.

Does reducing the process priority affect this?

Once again, is always disabled in all instances. Including edge browser.

Priority doesn’t affect this, changed to low, high and real-time.

I didn't meant HAGS (Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling), but Hardware Acceleration which can be disabled within the options of the application.

All instances available of any form of hardware acceleration have been disabled.

Looks like AMD GPU, u can try disable all overlays - for a little better effect, but for 100% fix just buy NVIDIA.

Intel CPU + NVIDIA 3060 TI + WIN11.22H2 + USB3.2 - no problem with 8khz
AMD CPU + NVIDIA 4080 / 1060 + WIN11.22H2 + USB3.2 - no problem with 8khz.

AMD CPU + AMD RT 6800 + WIN11.22H2 + USB32 - PROBLEM WITH DISCORD AND ANY OVERLAY

It's funny you talk about this because I'm blown away it's not discussed more often. Discord is currently incredibly bugged where CPU usage will spike to 10-20%+ if you spam your mouse movement and the discord window is open on the desktop or minimized to the task bar. Simply open up task manager, select 'Processes,' and organize by CPU usage so the highest CPU usage is on the top. Now open a discord window and leave it open on the desktop and start spamming your mouse (swipe left to right quickly or in a circle) and look at discord's CPU usage spike to 10-20%+. I posted some screens to show you what I mean. 1st screenshot is with the discord window open on the desktop, and the 2nd screen w/ discord completely closed to the TASK TRAY.

To alleviate the issue, you can't have the discord window open on the desktop when gaming, otherwise, cpu usage will spike and your mouse will lag. Make sure discord is closed to your TASK TRAY (bottom right corner) and not just minimized to your taskbar. Do you still get the same mouse lag/stutter w/ discord closed to the task tray?

Whether you enable/disable hardware acceleration, it doesn't make much of a difference at all in this instance.
