Why is my radeon card so much smoother than nvidia

Post by babooz99 » 23 May 2023, 13:40

My rx 580 is much smoother and has lower input lag than all of my nvidia cards ive used : 1060, 1080ti, 3060ti. Nvidia just has this "swampy" feel to my aim, like input lag. The game also looks more stuttery at the same frame rate. Maybe the rx580 has lower frame latency. I frag much more on rx 580 as a result even though I wish I could use 3060ti since it's a much superior card. I've done every tweak, setting, low latency whatever you can think of. I think the "swampy" feeling started after a certain driver version on nvidia, maybe somewhere around 370.33 drivers or something. My gtx 660 used to be low input lag

By smooth do you mean mouse movement more smooth? That would give the perception of the game is smooth at the same frame rate

Mouse feels more responsive, my aim feels snappier and easier to aim. The game also looks smoother, less jitter/judder especially when panning the camera quickly during an FPS game. On my nvidia card when I move my mouse around quickly, the screen is not as clear/visible leading to slower reaction times. On my radeon the screen is clearer I can see things better when I'm moving around quickly. I gotta say the difference is hard to notice unless you play at a high level. I have 20k hours in csgo and play at a high level. I would never notice this if I just played casual games.

This isn't the first time I've read this about the RX580... is there a chance this is the most reliable card for CSGO? I've considered downgrading my card many times to improve performance in CSGO, but haven't found much basis for trying it after having similar problems on amd+2070S, intel+3070, amd+3090.

Do you turn off HPET? This seems to be the major lag-inducing setting in my recent experience. Other settings to consider: PCIE 4.0 vs 3.0, MSI modes, PSU delivery to the card, resizable BAR, hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling. I've also found really poor performance when Ultra low latency mode and/or gsync settings are enabled.

If you're still swapping and testing the cards, I would compare their 2D performance in PerformanceMark. I think low 2D performance could be the hidden background thing that's causing the lag. When my Image Rendering and Image Filters score drops low, there are massive lag spikes ingame. Sometimes it just underperforms because it's not running at full speed, but then the fan will spin up and the performance kicks in and score goes up. Example: Image rendering over 300 pts, but when fan isn't spinning full speed it's like 250-280. With low latency/gsync enabled I've seen 2D scores bug out and go 40-80% lower.

DPC latency and the way frames are rendered would be the answer.
It's a shame AMD sucks in all other departments.

i think the reason is the nvidia driver, if you own nvidia card and reformat often, you'll notice that before you install the nvidia driver everything feels so much better even though it is 60hz. hopefully nvidia ai saves their laggy ass drivers. i don't think there's anythihng you can do about it except use your amd cards

because amd uses 1 driver dxkrnl with low dpc latency.
nvidia use 2 drivers, dxkrnl + nvlddmkm. nvlddmkm have big dpc spikes (any settings).
amd 100% prefer if you use ryzen cpu.

Does it feel better on the desktop, or just in game?

AMD driver is amdwddmg. nvlddmkm does not have big dpc spikes, works perfect on my machine

hmm, ok. i wrong about that.
anyway, nvidia have a dpc "bug"
