My case with floaty/delayed mouse and keyboard.

Post by giggio10 » 06 Apr 2024, 03:07

Started exactly in Dec 2020 when I first turned this prebuilt PC on. I noticed that something was delayed instantly. I was going through a rough time so I thought, hey, I'll keep this high end PC and enjoy it, maybe I just need to get used to it... But netherless to say, this was a bad idea :lol:

Old PC Specs (No issues whatsoever): i5 7400, 1060 6gb, GA-H270M-Gaming 3
New PC: i7 10700, 3060ti, H410m-E

So, it's the usual "floaty" issue that lots of people complain about. It feels like the mouse is constantly changing speed, sometimes too fast, like it's on ice. Another way to describe it, is as if the mouse movement is emulated, or if I'm controlling someone else's PC through TeamViewer or Parsec. Imagine targets "A", "B" and "C"; if I try to move my aim from A to B, it'll most likely end up on C. Decreasing the sensitivity doesn't help with that, it's very hard to predict the movement, making aim practicing kinda useless, even on desktop I'll often overshoot things. I got some top ranks in a few different Shooters and a decent amount of time practicing aim before that issue, so I know how a mouse and keyboard should feel, but to this day I never had my aim anywhere close to how it used to be on my old PC, even with that PC having 4x less FPS and playing on 75hz.
Just in case you might think it's placebo, I knew the concept of Input lag, but I never had to worry about it. With this PC it just hit like a truck, I can't click things and even typing is weird since it doesn't catch up to the letters I'm actually pressing. Bunny hop maps became a nightmare since I can't sync A/D strafes with the mouse movement, tracking is borderline impossible too...

What I've done that helped (Made it slightly more tolerable, issue still there):
-Removing the HD
-MSI Mode
-System Agent voltage set to 1.20

What I've done that DIDN'T help:
-Using the PC in different outlets/houses
-New PSU/Monitor/Mouse/Ram sticks
-Formatting windows (even disabling windows auto updates)
-Playing completely offline
+ Common obvious fixes like VSync, pointer precision were all tried.

Made a short video, though it's not very helpful since this issue is way easier to be felt than to be seen: https://youtu.be/p_UIY0y5fHY

I can't have fun playing anything that requires reaction (90% of the games I play), even 2d games, it's as if I was drunk.
If I knew that buying another PC would fix that I'd do it right now, but the amount of people that bought new PCs with no luck makes me hesitant. Also, I'd go back to my old PC if I could.

I watched your clip. I experience exactly the same and I have no control over my crosshair however it's in CS2. I can describe it as playing on tick 4 while everybody else plays on tick 64. Even animations of dying enemies look like a fucking slideshow ( 400fps and 280hz ) but on my friend's laptop they were displayed in 100%.

I've played in many places, on different PCs, different Internet connections and it's always been the same. What is the chance of having shitty gaming experience in so many locations? Even in China I wasn't able to play decently although I live in Europe.

Question: Do you have Steam and if so, then for how long?

I noticed one thing. People who experience this problem have their recorded videos or streams with some kind of pixelated, blocky grain effect. The same can be seen in yours video. The whole video looks kind of dull, not "alive" colors, huge jagged edges. When the mouse is moved, all textures are shimmering, popping out. The same is happening to me. No matter what settings I choose before recording a video, the quality is always strange. When I look at the gameplay of people who don't have this problem, their recorded video graphics are completely different.

I meant as in, scaling anything other than 100% scaling in windows?

I only say this, because I always had 125% and always felt like Windows and games felt a bit floaty, and I was doing some testing with Mouse Movement Recorder and noticed with Enhanced Pointer Precision in the off position (Which I always read to EPP being off was best practice), I would get lots of red repositions;
Image

Yet with EPP turned on, I would get 0 errors and the mouse felt better
Image

So after some searching, I turned the scaling back to 100% and tested again.
With EPP turned on, I'd only get Green repositions
Image

With EPP turned off, I'd get back to 0 repositions;

Windows definitely felt better, however in Apex it does also feel better too (I already had override DPI scaling on), but not entirely sure if it's placebo, I'll need to play and test more.

I saw that you are apparently br by nicks in dm

was a professional CS player here, also peak radiant valorant, even in bad conditions

Did you have perfect performance before 2020? Have you tried reassembling or playing on another PC with similar or older parts to your old PC?

Interesting, kind of lines up with what R0ach has said a long time ago about mixing hd’s/ssds which already had Windows installs from different pcs onto newer ones

And I agree with him on the whole using a certified Windows disc thing, I commented to someone on here about how the last time I had good mouse control was from the last PC which had a disk drive with an actual official Windows disc install
