MOTHERBOARD BEST PRACTICE QUESTION

Post by sewwy » 23 Aug 2025, 15:55

Hey guys, I'm new here and not very practical so my question might be one of the special ones. (retarded)

I've got a MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI. I do not use the ethernet of my motherboard because I have a separate NIC I use to connect my ethernet cable. (Intel Ethernet Network Adapter I225-T1) which is connected on my PCIe slot on (bottom one).

I've also got a lot of cables/devices: GOXLR for my microphone, 2 wireless mice, 2 USB-C for controller & charging things, 2 monitors, wireless headset and a keyboard.

Now my 2 questions are:
1. Does it matter how many cables you got connected on your motherboard? Will it impact latency or performance? I'm more worried about latency as I like to be very competitive and like to have an edge on Counter-Strike 2 (I know, garbage game).

2. You know how there are lanes on the motherboard, does it matter where I put my NIC, NVMe SSDs, etc.. ? I've genuinely no clue and it might be a stupid question. I used to have something saved for my motherboard where it showed the PCIe lanes and how many x16 etc.. (idk) but I couldn't be asked to learn about it until now.

Reason for asking: I get cooked on CS before I can even react, sometimes when spectating teammate they "pre-fire" the enemies and vice-versa so here I am, to cope.
I know holding angles is a no-no on CS2 but when enemies do it to me, even when peeking I get slammed. Mind you, I'm 2700 ELO on FACEIT and 27000 rating on premier (barely play).

My apologies if this is the wrong forum, I always come by this forum and read some interesting things from knowledgeable people so I thought why not give it a shot.
