What scaling is better?

Post by prezes9393 » 10 Apr 2019, 02:06

What scaling is better? gpu or display? I can use the display and have the current resolution on my monitor at 1280x960 Hz in cs go, if I add cru 1280x960 and 239.76hz in a detailed resolution, but if I do not add it I have cs 1920x1080 240h so I probably use display scaling. Or maybe even better to use no-scaling? How is this better?

The short answer is "it depends"

Sometimes GPU scaling has less lag and sometimes GPU scaling as more lag. Both situations have happened. Sometimes, in rare cases, either scaling has more lag than not scaling at all. It depends on the system, GPU and display behaviours. Usually, GPU scaling is now the way to go nowadays, because it's simpler to setup and more display-independent. But display scaling can be superior on certain displays -- especially if you're needing certain features like windowboxing 1280x1024 in the middle of 1920x1080 if the display includes such as feature.

If you're playing CS:GO you might as well play full resolution because of lack of latency penalty of the extra resolution, since practically the same available framerate occurs at 1024x768 or 1920x1080 in that game.

But if you're playing games that run at a quite noticeably higher frame rate (= lower lag) at lower resolutions, then scaling could be worthwhile as long as there's no scaling penalty.

Try both ways if you have the option, and see how the game "feels".

I use 1366*768 display.I play csgo at 1280*1024.But I play other game at native res.
Should I keep the Nvidia CP setting at Aspect Ratio and Scaling on Display? {This is by default setting}
