GPU limited in CS:GO causing Input Lag?

Post by senny22 » 18 Aug 2019, 11:37

So ever since I upgraded my CPU to a Ryzen 3600, I've been GPU limited in CS:GO (GPU clock and usage stays between 90-100%). I've read that being GPU limited can potentially cause some input lag compared to being CPU limited and I suspect this might be the case for me. Is there anything I can do to reduce input lag in cases where I'm GPU limited?

Yes, being GPU limited will add at least 1 frame of additional input lag. If you want to avoid it, use an fps_max value that keeps the GPU from being maxed out.

Cheers, how much should the GPU be utilized before it should be considered a "GPU limited" scenario?

If the GPU is what prevents higher FPS, then you're GPU-limited. This always happens at near 100% GPU load (there's some overhead so it can be 97% or so.)

Cheers, I've capped my framerate to 300 in CS:GO but according to MSI Afterburner, the GPU usage now varies from 50-100%. It's only at 100% for a couple of miliseconds here and there but I suspect this isn't an issue?

Probably not. But I'd search for the spot in the game that shows the highest GPU load and use that to find a good fps_max value.

It's more of a situation than a spot so that could be difficult. How much delay are talking about though when being gpu limited?

I feel like my overall input lag increased after upgrading to a ryzen 3600 and x570 elite and not because of being gpu limited
maybe its placebo idk
what motherboard you got?

I don't have this problem, my input lag has defenitely gone down since i upgraded and i contribute that to the increased frames.

I have a MSI B450 Gaming Plus and despite all the complaints mentioned over at Reddit, I haven't had any issues whatsoever. I even managed to get my corsair ram to run at 3800Mhz with decent timings and my IF at 1900Mhz.

What GPU do you have? I was interested in getting the Ryzen 5 3600 for CS:GO but now I'm torn.
