BenQ XL2411z On screen menu information shows 60hz?

Post by bogardon » 19 Oct 2017, 21:14

Hey guys,

Been trying to tweak my monitor by turning on blur reduction. Here's what I've done:

1. Turned on blur reduction.
2. Used ICC profile for XL2420z@120hz
3. Created a custom resolution in Nvidia Control Panels with 1920x1080@120hz and VT 1502.
4. Used Blue Reduction Calibration Utility to set Persistence to 2 and Crosstalk Area to Earliest.

My problem is this: when I navigate to System -> Information through the on-screen monitor menu, it shows my Current Resolution as "1920x1080@60". Even though my windows settings clearly state 120hz. If I use the pre-made 1920x1080@144 resolution, it shows correctly as "1920x1080@144". Am I missing something? Thanks in advance.

It doesn't matter what the OSD says. Run a game and it will be at 120hz.

The OSD shows the refresh rate based on the vertical total signal that each refresh rate normally uses. This is directly related to the pixel persistence per point of Strobe Duty, divided by 100 (e.g. 16.7ms divided by 100 is 0.167ms). For 120hz, by default this is 8.3ms (0.083ms per point of strobe duty). But when a VT change is used, that deviates too far from "established" values, the monitor switches to the 60hz strobe pulse widths (.167ms) that's why it is reported as 60hz.
