It's not needed.
it's just a fast way to change strobe settings without having to enter the service menu to do it.
Also a critical bug that existed with V2 firmware was fixed in V4.
The strobe utilty was designed to work around the bug in V2.

(The bug: in V2, if single strobe were DISABLED in the service menu, custom strobe adjustments would not take effect when turning blur reduction off to on, instead it would use factory defaults until an adjustment to brightness level (OSD), strobe phase or strobe duty was changed, then custom adjustments would suddenly get applied right away). The windows utility would automatically enable single strobe for you if you made any slider adjustment).

This behavior was fixed in V4. Now the single strobe on/off setting is considered always on at 100hz or higher refresh rate and the "off/on" setting only applies to refresh rates lower than 100hz. (if using a vertical total tweak at a refresh rate lower than 100hz, the monitor will still single strobe if SS is turned off but will use default settings and won't use custom settings unless you turn SS=on).

Note: the new AMA high toggled mode in V4 will reset to default AMA high settings if you enable the AMA high toggle and then make any change to brightness, strobe phase or strobe duty. I think this toggle is a test feature, possibly for newer benq monitors, because it only works well with a 0 or very low contrast setting, which is not ideal for normal image quality, while a low contrast WITHOUT toggling just makes ghost spectral trails appear. People have said that the XL2730Z (Freesync) has MUCH better overdrive quality than any other benq monitor ever released in the past.

I don't have a MStar unit so I can't help with these things.
I know absolutely nothing about them.
It "Looks" like a proper unit.

I can only say good luck.

V4 fixed the bugs in V2 which caused problems with single strobe off and strobe adjustments >100hz.
So I don't need the utility anymore. Just unlock the service menu and then use the options to adjust the settings there.

Plus by using the service menu, you can improve input lag by 1 frame (by using a high strobe phase value. e.g. if strobe duty is 006 at 120hz with VT 1500 tweak, strobe phase =044 will allow maximum strobe duty of 006; duty values 001-006 will still work. (strobe phase 045=strobe duty 005, phase 046=duty 004, phase 047-duty 003, phase 048-duty 002, phase 049 (=duty 001). Strobe phase 050 will shut off the backlight (0ms persistence).

When using a VT tweak, at a certain point, the maximum strobe duty will decrease as phase increases (this is when you know you have gained 1 frame improvement of input lag).

For 100hz, VT 1500, the values are :
054 phase=006 duty maximum (duty values 1-6 will work as normal, maximum duty will be 006).
055 phase=005 duty
056 phase=004 duty
057 phase=003 duty
058 phase=002 duty
059 phase=001 duty
060 phase will shut off the backlight.

Thanks.

Are these settings for the BenQ correct for VT1500?

You cant use VT tweaks at 144hz refresh rate. 144hz requires reduced blank timings.
You can't even use 1125 VT at 144hz, it will go out of range.
I think the absolute highest VT you can use at 144 hz is 1108 or something (the default for "LCD Reduced" (required for 144hz) is 1098.

For 120hz on XL2720Z and VT tweak you need front porch 48,3
sync width 32,5

horizontal total 2080, VT 1500 (VT 1502 will "sometimes" cause random stuttering and uneven strobing occasionally on XL2720Z)
For 125hz on XL2720Z, same thing except VT 1498 (1499 1500 and 1502 will fail--random stuttering)
Funny enough, on 85hz (if you want VT) you need to use VT 1501. 1502, 1500 will all stutter)
This doesn't seem to happen on the 24" monitors.

Some odd things about displayport:
if you use the wrong HT, the monitor will simply go into power save mode.
Example: to get 50hz strobing working (50hz will FAIL Without a VT tweak and can damage the backlight--do NOT try it):
2200 HT and 1360 VT will make the monitor go into power save on DP
while these settings will work fine on DVI.
2080 HT and 1360 VT will work fine on DP@50hz (48,3 porch, 32,5 sync).
