Are you testing this on the windows desktop or in games?
If this is the desktop, everything should be GPU scaled.

are these directx 10 games?

From what I understand all of Valves games (DOTA2, CSGO etc) are running the HL2 engine which is Directx9.

And I am testing this ingame and on desktop, same thing happens every time. Heres a weird thing to. When I am on 1080p w/ VT Tweak/120hz, if I go into CCC I am able to change the GPU scaling options. If I change my desktop res to say 1600x900 (with the CRU res still forced), I get the black bar situation that I get ingame. I am also not able to change any of the GPU scaling options in CCC. It isn't greyed out, but it automatically selects 'Use Centered Timings'. If I change it to something different, it doesn't stick. It also seems if I change my desktop res or res ingame the VT tweak is working, because the colour is still mega bright, just black bars. Just need to get this bastard to scale.

The problem is, it seems like the 2430T made checking for GPU or display scaling very hard. Maybe the monitor handles stuff differently.

This is how you check on the XL2720Z, XL2420Z and XL2411Z.
Check the monitor OSD in 'System->Information"
If you are using a lower resolution than 1920x1080, but it says 1920x1080@60 (the @60 is KEY) it means it is being GPU scaled AND the VT Tweak is ACTIVE.
If it says 1920x1080@100/120/144, etc, it means the VT tweak is NOT active, but is still being GPU scaled.
If the OSD reports a lower resolution (example: 1280x960@120) and you get an osd popup that says "recommended: 1920x1080@120" then you know it's display scaled.

It looks like the XL2430T no longer report @60hz when a VT tweak is active, meaning Benq fixed some things so the screen doesn't "revert" to 60hz backlight strobe pulse widths when run out of specification (e.g. VT tweak). So its going to be much more "fun" for you to test stuff :)

It has certainly been a bit of a struggle mate.

I'm fairly certain my CCC is shitting itself in combination with my CRU settings. At 1280 or 1024, the monitor is doing the scaling and the VT tweak isn't active. With resolutions like 1440(4:3) and 1600x900, the monitor forces 1080p w/ VT tweak from my CRU settings, but the GPU doesn't scale it properly. I legit feel like it's just one click away from working if that makes sense. If only I could get the GPU scaling options to work when I set 1600x9 ingame, then it would scale to 1080 and still get the benefits of the VT tweak. It's frustrating having 1600x9 work, with the VT tweak active, just being displayed on it's original size.

Anyway...probably just going to buy a new graphics card. Would you suggest Nvidea for my next purchase?

Are you aware of anybody else being able to get 4:3 1280 w/ VT tweaks working with this monitor and my card? Have spent > 20 hours playing around so far and can't really dedicate too much more time to it atm :(

If it makes you feel better, 1600x900 doesn't work correctly on mine, either.

1 )if GPU scaling is NOT enabled It's shown in the list of CCC resolutions, but it is ONLY selectable at 50hz refresh rate. All the others are italicized and not selectable (selecting it changes the resolution to 1920x1080). The aspect settings don't work either. It almost looks like an underscanned HDMI resolution. Yet its using the 1920x1080 @50hz VT tweak I made for 50hz (because single strobe is working and the screen MADLY flickers--only works at VT 1360 @ 50hz.

2) if GPU scaling IS enabled, then 1600x900 works, BUT only "full screen" and "1:1" work. It uses the 1920x1080@100 VT tweak on mine. Aspect and fullscreen are the exact same. it doesn't aspect it correctly. it just makes it fullscreen, but 1:1 works.

1366x768 seems to act the same way. Both aspect and fullscreen make it fullscreen while 1:1 makes it 1:1. But 1366x768 actually gpu scales even if GPU scaling is off, and doesn't have only 50hz selectable. But neither 1366x768 nor 1600x900 aspect correctly.
