I want to buy a Benq XL2411Z

Postby bad26wolf » 17 Feb 2016, 01:02

Hello. I am new and my english is bad.
I am a Quake, CSGO and Dirty Bomb player and I have an old 60 LCD. I want to upgrade to XL2411Z. I am very noob with your site and stuff about blur reduction/lightboost, only 2 days and allready my head hurts. So dont treat me like I know something... plz ;)

The problem is that I have AMD Radeon R9 280X and i want to buy a Benq XL2411Z and tweak the monitor to get the best possible experience in my competitive gameplay. Since I didnt find a full tutorial about how to get zero motion blur on XL2411Z with AMD hardware, I want to adress a question. Till now I read those articles and didnt help, literally my head is spinning with so much info: ... ce=sidebar ... robelight/
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=722 *** didnt read yet ... chnologies ... h-vt-tweak ... uary-2016/ ... and-NVIDIA ... tility-CRU

All these links were found via google search. Its quite confusing for me all the new info. I dont know where to begin guys :?
I noticed from what I read that the user Falkentyne is a very experienced with this stuff maybe he can enlighten me in this nightmare.

SO! MY QUESTION: Can I use (enable) lightboost (blur reduction) with tweaks, utilitys and methods, in links above, on XL2411Z IF I got AMD R9?
(i dont know if I care about freesync/g-sync since I understand that strobe-thingy is more important for fast paced games if you have stable high fps -i got i5 2500k OC- so i want a clear motion.... BUT i cant be sure since i never had 144hz and didnt test what is best for me: minimum input lag or clearest motion. I usually play both styles: starring at the crosshair OR moving my eyes arround the screen, playing both depends on situations in match )

Sorry for long post.

Lightboost and Benq blur reduction are not the same thing.
Although your monitor DOES support Lightboost, it's part of 3d vision 2 and requires an Nvidia video card to unlock it. The Strobelight method of using Lightboost on AMD video cards does NOT work on this monitor because the 'bypass' that strobelight used was patched in the Benq firmware.

it works on the previous "T" series (NOT the XL2430T) Benq monitors, the Asus VG248QE, and an Acer model that has lightboost permanently unlocked so only the Lightboost custom Vertical Total values are needed to use it.

You have Benq blur reduction to use instead of Lightboost. Benq's blur reduction actually uses some of the Lightboost hardware (since it's already in the panel) but allows far more adjustments.

You can read about the difference between lightboost and BBR here.

As far as settings, well that's up to you. I can't tell you how to use your monitor. Everything about the "1 frame of higher input lag" compared to the "no added input lag BUT more strobe crosstalk" is in this thread.

I wrote everything down so I'm not going to copy everything I wrote all over again. its here if you take the time to read and understand it.

Yes it's complicated. Because a lot of the stuff that "improves" the monitor from its CRAPPY default settings (mainly the horrible AMA high default setting) and the crosstalk issue, is from exploiting firmware bugs. And exploiting bugs is NEVER "quick and easy" until you know what you're doing. Thankfully once you understand it, it's simple. Just annoying to do.

The best thing to do when you get the monitor is to actually experiment with the settings, while looking at the values and features and tables shown and see how they change and work for you in person.

A lot of people just want everything quick and easy as if they're playing a console. The "quick and easy" settings for the XL2411Z are to set Strobe Phase 000 and keep it there, turn on "single strobe" (service menu option) and then adjust the Strobe Duty to balance brightness vs more blur reduction (You can do all of that with the windows utility with a Vertical Total tweak active (note: use VT 1500 for 120hz and VT 1500 or VT 1502 for 100hz. I found that VT 1502 at 120hz can be unstable sometimes randomly).

Basic "have fun and play fast" settings for blur reduction are usually something like:
Brightness: 100 (REDUCE THIS if NOT using blur reduction)
Contrast 40-50
Gamma 3-5
Sharpness: whatever
RGB Values, custom whatever, usually 100, 100, something. Lower blue channel from 100 if you don't like blue.
100hz or 120hz refresh rate with a Vertical total tweak (VT 1500 is best).

If NOT using blur reduction, the monitor looks rather bad unless you do the AMA toggle to lower the AMA via a bug. The default AMA high setting is just garbage. I explained that in the thread I made. The XL2720Z benefits the most from the AMA toggle bug. But the XL2411Z still sees a -massive- reduction in purple trails when doing this.

I don't recommend blur reduction at 144hz ; crosstalk covers a large part of the screen AND VT tweaks (to lower Crosstalk amount) do not work past 128 hz (129hz with a VT is unstable).

Pretty much everything else, including if you want to lower input lag by ONE FRAME and so on, is here.

The one thing that annoys me the most is when CS:Go players start bugging me for settings for CS:Go. I don't even PLAY that game.
Pick whatever looks better for you and just use it. Whatever happened to people experimenting for themselves?

First, thank you for a a quick and long answer.
I am not a person who likes to be "quick and easy" I just want to understand what am I doing, I try to understand the science of this monitors and for now is just ALOT of info, it takes time to assimilate in my head :geek:

As far as it goes, right now im trying to undestand what you wrote and the links u gave and Im trying hard trust me.

I want to say that I never touched or operate a XL2411Z before. So I dont know nothing about the XL2411Z inside monitor settings or how to use it. Actually what I am trying to do is make a mental plan about what final monitor I should buy, read alot on forums and came with the best choice. Its damn hard when you dont have stuff in your hands to test and all you can do is stay on forum and read alot what people say about different products, build a proper picture in your head about that specific products and take a final decisions/choice on what others say and not your personal facts/experience. Thats why I came with this idea, to buy a XL2411Z, it seems like the best choice from what I read. (i only got 300$ budget for a second-hand monitor, thats the other problem :( )

As I seen on this post viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1675 this guy said:
SUOrange55 wrote:I also thought there was some advantage to the Z-Series monitor because you can adjust crosstalk/persistence, and along with VT1350, eliminate most of the ghosting disadvantages that BenQ had vs. ASUS?

I switched from a VG248QE (10% LB, 120hz, fps capped at 119) to an XL2420Z (VT1350, BBR on, Blur Busters Utility: Crosstalk set all the way left, Persistence set to 2ms, 120hz, fps capped at 119) and can track MUCH, MUCH better on the BenQ in CS:GO and Quake Live.

Again, my very noob questions:
1. VT (Vertical Total) is a a setting of the monitor itself or a setting from an app?
2. The Blur Busters Utility: Crosstalk, what SUOrange55 mentioned, is this: ... ce=sidebar ?
3. Can I use this app ... ce=sidebar even if I have AMD gpu? (actually this is the biggest question fro me :D )

You can call me stupid if the answer is in front of my eyes, dont care, I just want to understand.

P.S. about that csgo thing, well... I didnt do this thread for csgo,i mentioned csgo, quake and dirty bomb just to outline the fact that I play fast shooters and I need clear motion, thats all. No special hate or love for any game in this thread btw, everybody can play whatever they want.

The best would be simply be the fastest harddrive you can find and plug it in via SATA to USB connection.

Samsung 850 pro or evo depending on your budget.
