Am I using correct settings? XL2720Z

Post by Paul » 10 Nov 2016, 18:06

Hello. My goal is to minimise ghosting and motion blur on my XL2720Z. After digging through a few topics on these forums, I ended up with those settings. Please tell me if there's anything else I should change to achieve even better results?

V5 firmware, DVI-DL cable + ToastyX pixel clock patcher
Nvidia panel -> custom resolution -> 1080p, 128Hz, VT 1502
Gamer1 settings: Brightness 100, Contrast 15, LBL 0, Blur Reduction ON, Color Temp RGB 85/85/100 (that's because I'm wearing Gunnar glasses which are orange-tinted, so this gives me closer to natural colors), AMA Low Hax, Instant Mode ON, Sharpness 5, Gamma 3.
Service Menu settings: Strobe Duty 006, Strobe Phase 000, Single Strobe ON.

I'm testing ghosting with Alien Invasion on 960 pix/s, fullscreen mode on Chrome fullscreen with scrollbars disabled. This way I can see 15 rows of UFOs that cover exactly the whole screen.
Generally, I'm pretty satisfied with what I have now. There's some ghosting on the 1st and 15th row, but the rest of the rows I can't complain too much.
Setting Strobe Phase to anything higher than 000 gives a lot of ghosting on top rows, so I don't change it from 000.

Is there anything else I can change to eliminate ghosting in the uppermost 1/15th and lowermost 1/15th part of the screen?

I also wanted to say: anyone here who's using XL2720Z on standard 144Hz, you NEED to change now to 128Hz and VT 1497~1502 (whatever value works for you). On 144Hz, I'm getting extreme ghosting in 50% of my screen, even with Blur Reduction ON. However, using those VT settings, you'll only get *slight* ghosting near top and bottom of the screen. And your screen will be brighter! Only thing you'll be losing is 16Hz, and probably you won't notice the difference (I didn't).

Also, at first I was sceptical if the AMA Low even works; but if you run the Alien Invasion test, when you notice the difference you'll be amazed! This AMA Low "bug" is absolutely brilliant; why can't Benq enable it with V6 firmware update?

Cheers and kudos to all people who posted many guides on these forums.

When I asked them why, they said that toggling the AMA increases input lag.
I guess 2 ms of input lag is too much for them to add an extra setting of "low" manually...

Welp the XL2735 lets you do that in the service menu by changing the "OD Gain" setting, but just like the AMA "Toggle" Low, changing monitor resolution resets it instantly....

What the fuck... Did you speak to them online or? do you have the full transcript or did you just ask them that?

This service menu shit is ridiculous, they put the most useful settings hidden away.

Is there a cheap way of testing input lag, that doesn't require high-speed camera?
