question about dyac ON with xl2546 monitor at 240hz and 182 hz trick

Post by alexander1986 » 07 Mar 2020, 14:04

hello, have some questions for anyone with xl2546 monitor after looking at blurbusters guide here: https://blurbusters.com/benq/strobe-utility/ and here: https://blurbusters.com/faq/advanced-st ... stalk-faq/

questions are, in games where you can not hold 240 hz 100% of the time, but maybe fps will range from 150-240 lets say, is it better with 240hz or to use the 182hz custom hz trick with large vertical totals in the second link above?

I have seen some posts on this subforum with several users claiming to basically eliminate strobe crosstalk at 240hz on this monitor with some tricks like lowering color temperatures and/or contrast and so on, like in these posts:

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=5428&p=41589#p41589 (144 hz example)

and here on 240hz : viewtopic.php?f=13&t=5191

but mostly wondering now if I play a game where I can not hold 240 fps 100% of times, but always in range of 150-180 to 240 lets say, would it be better for me to run the monitor at 182 hz and tweak the strobe crosstalk with the utility/service menu/large vertical trick+contrast and color temp tweaking you think?

the idea is that 150-180 frame fluctuation is maybe visually better at 182 hz strobed instead of at 240 hz strobed?

thanks for any input on this, cheers !

In my limited time owning an xl2746s, it's better to run at 182 Hz if your fps is closer to 182 vs 240. The rule of thumb for less motion blur is fps = Hz.

Yes, more refresh rate headroom below Hz, improves the strobed quality (lower strobe crosstalk).

You can stick to 240Hz DyAc for lower-lag strobing, or you can use lower-Hz DyAc to have higher-quality low-crosstalk CRT-quality strobing.

Also, fps=Hz is better because strobe modes makes microstuttering more visible (no blur to hide microstutters). Games are smoother with ~180fps at ~180Hz strobed, than ~180fps at 240Hz strobed.
