Need help after upgrading to v2 firmware.

Post by SuperNuts » 13 Jun 2014, 14:31

Hello - I recently upgraded my BenQ XL2420Z from firmware 1 to 2 via MSTAR ISP utility. The firmware upgrade was successful, the monitor's menu says it's version 2. Now it's locked at 60hz, I verified that 120hz was selected in Windows (and in my graphics card settings), but looking in the menu of the monitor itself it says it's running @60. On top of this, when I try to enable blur reduction the screen goes black entirely and I am unable to do anything except turn off blur reduction to bring it back.

How can I get 120hz back and enable blur reduction?

The monitor is lying. That happens when you use custom timings. Don't worry about that (but check in a game if you really are at 120Hz).

The black screen appears when the value of the crosstalk setting is too high. You can lower it in the blurbusters utility or in the monitor's service menu (there it's called strobe phase). A safe value is simply 0 in that menu, or completely to the left in the utility. Once you change that setting, it remains the same until you change it again.

Awesome, that was it! Strobe phase was set at 100. Setting it to 0 allowed me to enable blur reduction without the screen blacking out.

Also, how would I test in game if it's 120hz or not? Just eye it you mean?

The UFO test shows 120hz, is that a good enough test?

edit: I think it is actually 120hz because it looks slightly better than v1 firmware. Just annoying that it shows @60 when it's @120hz.

Thanks again for the help :)

upgrading is useless.

I didnt notice any difference when I used the blur buster tool.
Just some mini lags

I disagree. The strobe utility is just a bonus, the main reason I upgraded from v1 to v2 firmware is because of the artifacting v1 has.

Yes, if it's smooth then it's valid. Besides, you already said that you chose the refresh rate in Windows/GPU control panel. That's enough proof. If you aren't sure, using vsync in a game that doesn't have a fps cap should limit your fps to the same ammount of Hz of your monitor.

Enjoy your monitor 8-) .

So now every once in a while it reverts the strobe phase setting back to 100, and I have to open the service menu and drop it back down to 0. Worked fine all weekend then come Monday I turn the computer/monitor on and it's back to 100. Is there a way to permanently change this?
