Update: through cru Ive been able to raise hdmi 2.1 bandwidth to 48 gbps and then create
the custom res i play 1680x1050 cvt-rb2 at 540 hz and DSC does now seem disabled. This at the 500hz edid. 1920x1080 seems to max out at 480hz, anything higher and i get black screen. Now it is using display scaling and feels abit snappier. Image is a whole lot sharper, and best of all - no more DSC tab in/out bugs where screen goes black for minutes and you accidentally Dodge faceit matches 😅
Tnx for sharing! How do you know dsc is disabled? Can u please share a screenshot of the cru settings of both resolutions?
Well, since the screen goes black at 1920x1080 540hz but not at 480 it has to be disabled. Cannot do this on the 540hz edid, only on the 500 one. No need to post the timings, they are automatic. Just pick the resolution, hz and then set cvt-rb2. Didnt work on the others, i guess rb2 requires less bandwidth :) The difference in image quality too is amazing. "Lossless" my ass. Would be nice if zowie could automate this and have one edid called DSC and one No DSC and just have the highest res/hz combos possible on that one. Like 1920 goes uo to 480, maybe some res can only go 500, and alot of them can go 540 if theyre lower. But i guess this would look like a failure or something i dont know. Hence the very general "whats wrong with DSC" answers from the support.
I am not sure if a screen not goes black equals no DSC.
You asked the same question above when u found out you can actually make custom resolutions with edid 500. What changed that u now sure all of a sudden?

..Also, with 500hz edid tabbing in and out on native is instant, and with gpu scaling and tabbing out from non-native to native is also instant, which it is not with 540. At 540 there is always a big black screen delay. DSC must be off at 500 then right? 🤔
Tried with cru this time. Seems to be some limit in bandwidth at say 480hz @1920x1080 doing this with cru custom res while on 540 edid suddenly 540 hz is possible on 1920. Also, when i got 500 edid and make a custom 1680x1050 540 hz res only, then that works but on 1920 for the desktop only 240 hz is there, no other. Until i make more custom res for that. And then 480 hz is max, unlike on the "magic" 540 edid where suddenly 540hz is possible.
See my point?
Edit: also, i did try to make custom resolutions on the 540 edid but that did not work, they dont show up

XV242F has a DSC on/off switch. If I turn it off I can only use the display in YCbCr422 colour mode though.

The Asus has a DSC switch also. Unfortunate its not possible to overclock the 540 ASUS monitor in CRU so the switch is kinda useless. The idea was to overlock the 360hz to 480hz
If u know how CRU works can u check if you can overlock the XV242F with DSC off? Even to 400hz?

If I turn DSC off I can only run the 422 colour like I said above. Can still run 540hz, nothing else changes, but the colour. Still 10bit too but I don't know what 10bit 422 is equivalent to

Great review showcasing the capabilities of the XL2586X
Surprisingly enough, it employs QDEF, as seen by the SPD graph.

Image

I dare to say it's the best E-TN on the market just due to the backlight choice.

For other, english reviews of the XL2586X, take a look at:
Rtings' review (they have each transition graph displayed with their v2.0 methodology),
Techless' review (OSRTT),
Tim from HUB/MUB's review

(avoid optimumtech & any of his results, he's ignorant)

Hello, is there as of now any solutions to making custom res on the zowie 540? I typically have used 1568x1080 for cs. I am not entirely knowledgeable about the technology behind monitors but I really would like to know if anyone has a solution yet or not.

On the 500hz edid you can use cru and make 540 hz custom resolutions. It also possible to uncheck dsc 1.2a in the hdmi information😀
