New 610hz from ASUS claiming that it's a different panel.
Have we got any info/leaks on this?
ROG XG248Q5G-P
Re: ROG XG248Q5G-P
It's very likely using this panel: https://www.panelook.com/M241HTN01.9_AU ... 68223.html
The codename chosen by Asus for the panel you've mentioned is "Super TN", which indicates a new panel.
Other options:
Koorui G7 (no info)
MSI MPG 242R X60N (no info on ports, Q2 2025)
ROG XG248Q5G-P (not available, ~$1,094, HDMI 2.1 / DP1.4)
Zowie XL2586X+ (available @ 1149€, HDMI 2.1 / DP1.4)
AOC AG246FK6 (not available, HDMI 2.1 / DP1.4)
Acer Nitro XV240 F6 (not available, HDMI 2.0 / DP1.4)
I personally don't think any of these are worth it, considering that one has to deal with DSC even though HDMI 2.1 should have enough bandwidth. Manifacturers don't like implementing HDMI properly.
The new 500Hz QD-OLED look like a far more appealing package with DP2.1 UHBR20

Re: ROG XG248Q5G-P
That's exactly what I’ve been wondering... do any of these displays actually hit their max refresh rate over HDMI 2.1 w/out relying on DSC? I really hope it’s wrong info, but I’ve read that the Zowie is locked to use DSC even at settings nowhere near necessitating its use..
What I really don’t get is why these esports focused TN panels built for the lowest possible latency and response times.. end up needing DSC at all. Like, if you're targeting that audience, adding any overhead processing (i.e. compression) defeats the whole point even if just a few ms of added latency
Re: ROG XG248Q5G-P
I've already tried the XL2586x+ and honestly i think it's not worth at all. Waste of money, especially at that price.
The only good thing about the monitor is the color customization and blackequalizer. My old VG258QM is good enough compared to that zowie.
I've never tried OLEDs but a 500hz OLED like the one you suggested would be a niceshot.
Any ETA on that?

Re: ROG XG248Q5G-P
I emailed ASUS and this was their reply:
After sending your question internally, inform that the model that mentions us will only be available during the second half of this year.

DSC isn't that much added processing latency, from the information I was able to findvogam7 wrote: ↑13 Apr 2025, 17:11That's exactly what I’ve been wondering... do any of these displays actually hit their max refresh rate over HDMI 2.1 w/out relying on DSC? It seems to be in ~10µs range
The potential visual artifacts and longer alt tab duration are a different issue however.
It's also difficult to assess whether DSC is working or not, as reports online wildly differ in this regard

I've seen some claim that setting the xl2586x+ to 500hz feels "instant" (dsc seemingly disabled)
I always like to show this image when discussing the LCD vs OLED topic:_noName_ wrote: ↑13 Apr 2025, 17:44I've already tried the XL2586x+ and honestly i think it's not worth at all. Waste of money, especially at that price.

The reasons why one might choose a LCD nowadays is due to cost, working VRR, well implemented backlight strobing, text rendering, pixel density, lack of backlight flicker
Otherwise, OLED is currently better at sample & hold motion clarity due to <1ms G2G response times.
In terms of the new 500Hz QD-OLED options, these are the ones that have been confirmed to have DP2.1 UHBR20 / HDMI 2.1 capabilities:
Gigabyte FO27Q5P
MPG 272QR X50
Unconfirmed models:
Samsung G60SF
Confirmed to have DP1.4 / HDMI 2.1:
Asus ROG XG27AQDPG
All of these are stated to hit the market in Q2 2025.
