What's insane to me are all the headlines from mainstream publications denouncing this monitor as some type of 'overkill' or 'only for that 1% of gamers...'

it's almost like they don't check the steamcharts to see what games are most played: https://steamcharts.com/
or like they don't really play games at all.

If you just take CS:GO as an example, people play it at 240, 360 and higher FPS. And even if your rig can't pull that high of FPS you will benefit from a higher refresh rate. Just crazy how uninformed these sites are

And you would also benefit - hopefully - from faster pixel transitions.

Yeah, the majority of games the people play can actually spit out this many frames on mid-high end hardware. Valorant can do 1200+fps, CSGO can do 1000+fps, Overwatch can do 500+fps (they need to fix the default framerate cap though,) LoL can do 1400+ fps, etc.

And G-sync means this is still a fantastic monitor for games where you can't hit 500hz.

where can i watch the video?
I often do not clearly state my thoughts. google translate is far from perfect. And in addition to the translator, I myself am mistaken. Do not take me seriously.

I sent an email to Asus asking when the release date was for this monitor and also the PG27AQN 1440p 360z with dual-layer voltage driver, but they were tight lipped and couldn’t offer me any information at all. :-( PG279AQN was announced at CES and it’s now approaching August with no release in sight.

So this puts some of us in a weird spot.

I have a QD-OLED monitor (AW3423DW) which is amazing in many ways although clearly it has some flaws/cons (partly due to some laziness or poor design decisions made by Alienware).

Here are some comparison pro/cons:

QD-OLED (using AW3423DW as ref)

Pros:
  • Fast pixel response time
  • Awesome contrast & HDR
  • Great colors
  • Ultrawide 21:9 has some obvious perks
Cons:
  • No BFI so motion blur is still significant.
  • Refresh rate is relatively low (175Hz @ 8bit, 144Hz @ 10bit)
  • Panel native resolution is a bit weird (UWQHD) so downscales 4K content, & increased GPU burden vs say QHD 1440p). Not optimal for ultra-competitive gaming.

TN (using ROG Swift 500Hz as ref)

Pros:
  • 500Hz
  • 1080p - good for ultra-competitive gaming
  • Hopefully will have strobing to reduce motion blur but at what max refresh rate?
  • Should be cheaper vs the larger QD-OLED monitors
Cons:
  • Decent pixel response time? Guessing it'll be around 0.5ms GtG
  • Average contrast / HDR
Basically we have 2 technologies (QD-OLED vs TN) combined with manufacturer/panel specs catering to different audiences (high-end gaming vs ultra-competitive high-end):

TN = High refresh rates, decent pixel response, decent image quality
QD-OLED = Very good pixel response, very good image quality, low refresh rates

What I wish we had now or will have soon so that you can have 2 monitors for different general use-cases:
  • 1080p or 1440p QD-OLED with BFI @ 540Hz+ for ultra-competitive gaming
  • 4K or higher QD-OLED with BFI @ 240Hz+ for other immersive gaming, video content, etc.

Whether or not I buy this monitor comes down to two things:

1) Will it feature ULMB / strobing / BFI at 500hz?
The ROG Swift 500hz features high brightness (advertised as 400 nits.) There is no excuse for it to not have strobing. Yet I don't see any mention of its inclusion. This makes me believe Asus will omit strobing intentionally so they can release a full-featured version in a year, therefore double-dipping the enthusiast market.

Playing on my XL2540 which features Adaptive Sync ("G-sync Compatible") and BFI (via the factory menu) has made me realize I can't buy a monitor that doesn't have both.

I need adaptive sync or G-sync on a high refresh rate monitor, for use with games which can't render 500fps and/or have highly unstable frame rates. The amount of games that can't render 500fps is much higher than the amount that can't render 240.
I need strobing / BFI because it is a necessity for motion clarity in modern competitive high-FPS titles, the whole reason I buy high refresh rate monitors.

Ideally I would like a monitor that allows for both to be active at once... but failing that, I cannot do without a monitor that doesn't let you pick between them.

And of course:

2) Will Zowie produce a 500hz / 540hz TN monitor with DyAC + ASNYC/GSYNC?
(DyAC will likely continue to be better than ASUS' implementation of ULMB, so I would pass over Asus for it.)

If the past in any indication, when Asus announces a display (without a specific release date) and when it actually goes to market, the results have been inconsistent. Sometimes they release it quickly, other times they go months without even mentioning it on social media, almost like they've forgotten about it. Unfortunately for this display, it's looking like the latter.

The good news is that we should get some info about the Zowie 2566K soon because the contest to win a free unit is ending in a week.
