So, the limit in windows 10 is 512 hz, have i understood this correctly? So if im using windows 10 or windows server 2022 i could use the upcoming rog swift 500hz but not this 540hz panel, correctly?
Unless windows patches this, which is how likely in your opinion?
There's an Insider Build with a registry tweak that allows 1000Hz under Windows.

I would not be surprised if Microsoft rolls that into Windows 11 soon.

Why is capped refresh rate a thing in windows again?
And why would it be capped to 512hz specifically?

But it cant happen on 10/server? Only 11 and forward?

Unknown at this time. This will be a job of the gaming monitor gorillas to press Microsoft on.

Fingers crossed that it’s backported to Windows 10

I get the feeling that Zowie took their time going from 240hz to 360+ because the industry was dead set on going IPS and making TN obsolete (even if motion clarity suffered a bit). This time around, Asus is promoting a 500hz TN while Zowie is sticking to 360.

Obviously Asus already released their 360 so another 360 that is TN rather than IPS just won't do. Meanwhile Zowie may have gotten first dibs on this latest batch of TN high refresh rate displays. I just have a feeling that Asus had to go for the 500hz, and Zowie took the 360 because they were able to implement their latest version of DyAc and get this display up to their standards of performance.

Meanwhile Asus just had to shrug and say "well we can't do another 360". Don't get me wrong, I'm sure 500hz will be great but I wouldn't be surprised if the Zowie ends up outperforming it for gaming.

I think that's what happened with the first gen 360hz (IPS) and Zowie wasn't happy with the performance of the panel, we could see on certain reviews that the 360hz monitors weren't fast enough for the refresh rate yet.

But ASUS actually released a TN version of their VG259QM (VG258QM),probably having the first 500hz monitor was more interesting for them as a big marketing hit.

I think the first gen of 500hz will probably have the same issues as the IPS 360hz but we'll see.

The Windows display compositor has trouble with highly dissimilar refresh rates (ie 500hz monitor + 60hz secondary monitor). It might be related to that.
