So what were your impressions of the ultrawide and the 4k? Be as detailed and/or qualitative as you can. Don't need numbers, need what you see. Are they worth $2k? Would the clarity and sharpness of the 4k compensate for being at 144hz rather than 240hz?

Also, which did you find more impressive and would rather have?

No opinion on which you found more impressive? These are actual high-performance monitors that will be available soon. Would be nice to hear something.

darzo,

They won't be as good as a 1000Hz OLED :D but no displays come close to reaching true-life ideals. All of the displays looked technically impressive for their different traits. I couldn't run TestUFO on showroom displays, occasionally some displays are literally behind red felt ropes at CES, so I don't have a proper basis of comparision without seeing TestUFO versus tests.

Extensive tests will occur whenever Blur Busters purchases or receives samples from manufacturers. Test ramp-up is now currently expected to begin Spring 2018. It will likely include at least two ASUS monitors (I expect PG258Q, XG258Q) initially, with more coming afterwards.

I'm referring to the picture. Which did you find more impressive? The 4k or the 1440 ultrawide? I've heard that HDR makes an even bigger difference than resolution so I wonder if the ultrawide looked similar to the 4k in picture quality as well.

As an aside, I don't think you should be focusing on Asus too much. They seem to have the upper hand elsewhere and in general but imo that's insubstantial and Acer might have the edge in quality.

Not all manufacturers attends CES 2018. For example, ASUS did but not BenQ/Zowie. This kind of affected some of my CES 2018 coverage.

Acer had an exhibit, but I ran out of time before I reached them. CES being one of the world's biggest electronics show, had 2.6 millon square feet of exhibits (more than 45 football fields jam packed full of booths!) and nobody can possibly cover all of the surface in just the 4 days. Acer had their 65 inch Predator gaming monitor announced.

Next year (if I go again), I'll be more prepared with the routes to all manufacturers. :)

Really wish there was more advancement with regards to the gaming screens.

Right now I'm daily'ing the Asus PG258Q monitor and I'd have to sum it up as being all around 'average'. The saving grace is that it runs at 240hz which is the only reason I'm using it over other monitors.

I can't wait to replace it with something better.

1440 at 240hz and a better TN panel overall in production quarter 2, so maybe released in early fall? And there's the 4k 144hz imminently, with 1440 ultrawide 200hz to follow. Need better cards though.

There is 1440p 200Hz coming out shortly.

However, 1440p 240Hz is also enough bandwidth for 1080p 360Hz ;) ... By then, we might have overclockable 240 Hz monitors -- a forum member overclocked his LG 240Hz to 280Hz recently, and the overclocking headroom may actually continue.
