However, 1440p 240Hz is also enough bandwidth for 1080p 360Hz ;)
Gosh... I want to get a 27" 1080p 240hz monitor (which I plan to keep for at least 3 years), but the higher the hertz, the better... so this statement makes me want to wait... but how long would I have to, in order to get a 300hz+ 27" 1080p screen?

Current Blur Busters predictions:

480Hz: Approximately year 2020
1000Hz: Approximately year 2025

Homebrew/indie manufacturers usually are ahead of the game. Zisworks has 480Hz already at http://www.zisworks.com/shop and Viewpixx has a 1440Hz DLP projector, amongst other speciality manufacturers. The tech will probably filter down to gaming monitors.

Due to these longer timelines, I do not suggest waiting if you don't have a "Better Than 60Hz" display -- get 144Hz or 240Hz today -- and buy again later. You can always resell your current display online, too.
