Please, could you sit in a way so that take up less space? This boat is small y'know.

I see, I apologize, I was confused. You’re right, I think we’re a fairy small minority that wants 27” 1080p 140hx; I expect more people will in the future though due to how common 144hz has become. It’s to be expected, hopefully the appeal tells companies we want the tech. I’m not really interested in 1440p 240hz atm because I can’t srice it with my pc. My Xl2720 was the best monitor I’d ever have, I LOVE 27”.

I’m really desperately waiting for more news about the 0.5ms displays, because I’ve decided I am going to wait for those before I upgrade. If they take TOO long, I may bite and get the XL2740. This website reports that the panels ahihod hooedully begin production in Q4, so now. That’s not really news, but just the thought is exciting LOL. https://www.displayninja.com/new-monito ... -and-2019/

I have both the xl2740 and 2720z sitting on my desk atm, however I can't fully compare them yet, since I'm waiting for a DVI cable to arrive.
(The xl2720z with a V2 firmware only supports 144hz 1080p via DVI, and currently I don't have a DVI cable...and also, no time or patience to update the firmware.)

I've been using the XL2740 on and off for more than a month now, and it's a good screen with great overdrive calibration and a super smooth 240hz refresh rate, but...
While it is good, it's really expensive, with the only big benefits VS the XL2720Z being 240hz, better overdrive and way better strobing.
If you feel you really need those, get it.
I decided I don't, after seeing an XL2720Z for sale at 180 eur.

You see, after playing on a 240hz monitor for the first time, I was amazed by it's smoothness and superior motion clarity even in non-strobed operation compared to 144hz one... that lasted for like 3 weeks.
After that, I was going back and forth between 144 and 240hz out of curiosity on the same XL2740 and I found out that I actually perform better on 144.
Yes, this is probably just because I'm used to 144hz's lag amounts after years of playing on it... and I could probably get used to 240hz as well, but why bother when I can save 300 eur and get nearly the same experience?

Yes, 240hz does look way better on the Ghosting UFO test, and I can without a question feel the added smoothness of 240hz both ingame and on the desktop... and I've let all of that convince me for a pretty long while.
But after realising throughout extended testing ingame, that I don't really have a disadvantage when running at 144hz, I don't see 240hz as something necessary anymore.
(And this all is coming from a person who disables any background service in windows which is not crucial for his PC to function; reinstalls windows every 6 months; is not using shadowplay unless absolutely necessary; and has barely anything running in the background when playing a game, even though he has an overclocked 8700k... just to shave off 1-2 milliseconds of input latency.)

Looks like Nov or Dec for panels. I have no idea how long until actual monitors.

Indeed.
Overdrive tuning could certainly be better on 240Hz screens.
The new AUO 0.5ms panels hopefully should have better overdrive. Though, overdrive is often programmed by a different vendor than the panel manufacturer.

Sometimes that produces better overdrive (e.g. the ultra-custom overdrive tuning used in LightBoost and ULMB) and sometimes worse overdrive (e.g. very simple 3-setting Overdrive)

Any practical reason to upgrade from a current 240hz monitor outside of the resolution?

Faster response times (5ms base to 3ms base which may result in less motion blur), better viewing angles and
"extended (color) gamut offering 90% DCI-P3 coverage".

do you really want 1440p 240hz? 1080p 240hz offers better motion clarity than 1440p 240hz, because the trail is gonna be smaller. The higher the resolution the more hz you need to have comparable motion clarity. So me personally I would always prefer 1080p 240hz for moving images. Resolutions are a bit overrated if you ask me. They offer an objectively superior experience on static or slow images. Maybe a game played with a controller like RPG Witcher or Skyrim? But then again the 240hz are not as needed there.

And there is your answer.

If I could ask for a dream monitor with achievable tech nowadays, it would be 1080p 240hz on 23 inches, instead of 25, glossy or semi-glossy panel. For 1440p or 4k I would rather use 120hz even and a controller chilled from the couch/bed.

Yes i think 0.5ms will be a nice upgrade. I love my 240hz but I was just hoping for a little more motion clairity when I got it. My standard is still this old dlp I played on. 120hz and zero motion blur. Thing could get bright like the sun too. It was more real than real life. Did have a bit of a rainbow effect though.

My dream panel is >16K resolution, >50KHz refresh rate; perhaps even VR. Maybe in 300 years.
