9900k is overpriced and can give you less performance than 9700k because of the Hyper Threading. Something that happens, for example, in BF V according to Guru3d and Black Ops 4. Games do not like hyper threading, unless you only have 4 cores, in that case HT will help.
9700k is my current #1 CPU pick.
Yes, to me is the best gaming CPU. The problem with 9700k is that on europe it can´t be bought for less than 460€, wich is a lot of money for a 8c/8t CPU imo. At a 350€ price point it would make more sense. So buying a 240€ 8600k is usually my pick because it costs 200€ less and provides similar performance. Also is cooler, easier to cool, overclocks easily and doesn´t need a beefy VRM motherboard.

In theory the 8600k is better because 6 cores is enough and both are non ht. But in practice and benchmarks the 9700k is the top dog. There is something more than just cores and clocks going on here. The 9700k is basically the same thing as the 9900k but with lower price as far as games are concerned.

I got 8700K back when it came out (and appeared in stores after being gone due to pre-orders) and couldn't be happier about it:
- The price is nice compared to 9XXX series.
- 6 cores are nice, I certainly don't use more as I'm primarily a multiplayer gamer and don't multitask (sometimes I stream on Twitch though). Not sure where'd I put additional 2 cores.
- The die isn't soldered, therefore the delid process is much easier and way better temps are achieved through delidding than what you get with stock solder of 9XXX series (solder is obviously a plus if you don't want to delid).
- The performance is the same at the same clocks, unless you're somehow utilizing the two additional cores of 9900(K).

I still have my old 4-core i7-7740X but it is a water cooled all-cores 5GHz everyday overclock.

I´m with a 9700k 5ghz now on a simple air cooler that came for free with my motheboard
Msi Core Frozr L. Was waiting to see what Ryzen 3000 would bring, but still not enough for 200fps+ gaming... sadly. Wanted AMD badly, but no luck. Maybe on their next gen CPUs

I will test framerates on my rig when my 3600x arrives today.
Let's see if it can improve performance over my 6700k.
I will mainly test CSGO and Rocket League
I'll also test RAM differences. Switching from 2x 2400 C16 Single-rank to 2x 3200 C14 Dual-rank.

You will defo notice something, specially because 6c/12 threads vs 4c/8t.
I know this is not famous opinion but I expected way more from AMD on the gaming department. 7nm, still using crazy voltages and no oc headroom at all plus lower 1% lows compared to Intel

I am quite happy with it. Ipc increases are decent. I can run it at 1.25-1.325V and it was the same with my 6700k. I had a horrible bin though. Current draw is about the same. Single core is the same. Even better in many cases. Not worth the extra 60€ from the 3600, but I know my luck.
Better current draw and better temps than my 6700k.
Overall much happier.
